Relation of Chemical Composition and Colour of Spruce Wood
The visual inspection of fresh cut spruce wood (Picea abies, L. Karst.) showed the variability of its colour. Wood visual inspection is a part of wood quality assessment, for example, prior to or after its processing. The detail spruce wood colour analysis was performed using spectrophotometric data.

Wood colour of central European wood species: CIELAB characterisation and colour intensification
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2016In this project, 24 central European wood species have been characterized spectrophotometrically using the CIELAB-colour-system. Special focus has been put on the analysis of colour intensification of wood surfaces due to surface wetting. The analysis shows how the various wood species react to wetting and how the colour is changed.

Photodegradation of wood at elevated temperature: Colour change
Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2012The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of elevated temperature on the photodegradation of solid wood. The work presented here, dealt with the changes of colour during the degradation process. Wood samples were irradiated by mercury vapour lamp at 80°C and at 30°C to screen out the effect of thermal decomposition during ...

Evaluation of colour differences on wood surfaces
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2011Colorimetric measurements are often carried out for evaluation of colour changes on wooden surfaces. However, a grading of the value $\Delta E^{*}_{\mathrm{ab}}$ , (colour difference) is missing for wooden surfaces. Colour measurements were carried out on surfaces

On the modelling of colour changes of wood surfaces
European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2009Colour has an influence on the aesthetic properties of wood surfaces, and changes in colour have an impact on each individual’s perception of wood construction materials. This study examines an approach to model the discolouration of wood during natural weathering.

Colour Characterisation of Wood
2015The colour and gloss of wood is very important aesthetical property and it has a fundamental influence on the commercial value of timbers. Nevertheless, the use of colour measurements and evaluations in practice is unsatisfactory also today. In this Chapter a new colour estimation method has been introduced with many practical applications and ...

Influence of Natural and Artificial Weathering on the Colour Change of Different Wood and Wood-Based Materials [PDF]
The importance of the aesthetic performance of wood is increasing and the colour is one of the most important parameters of aesthetics, hence the colour stability of twelve different wood-based materials was evaluated by several in-service and laboratory tests. The wood used for wooden façades and decking belongs to a group of severely exposed surfaces.
