Acetoacetates Derived From Vegetable Oils: A Platform for Tailor‐Made Vinylogous Urethane Foams
A renewable vegetable oil is converted into acetoacetate‐functionalized precursors for the preparation of catalyst‐free vinylogous urethane foams. Room‐temperature foaming with n‐pentane generates lightweight cellular materials, while the choice of amine enables control over foam structure and mechanical properties.

Automatic Classification of Compression Wood in Green Southern Yellow Pine [PDF]
Compression wood is a feature in softwoods that is undesired in sawn wood products due to its tendency to bend and crook as the moisture content changes.

This work reveals the UV‐curing‐induced monomer‐rich domain, oligomer‐rich domain, and entangled oligomer domain. The cured submicron films in stressed state induce interlayer nano‐wrinkle structures during the deposition of the second layer. Stress‐free cured films in relaxed state form non‐diffusive, diffusive and semi‐diffusive interlayer ...

Compression drying of energy wood
Abstract This study investigated the compression drying of energy wood in the form of sawdust. The test was carried out on freshly-felled Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris ), Norway spruce ( Picea abies ) and Downy birch ( Betula pubescens ) in Finland. The compression pressure (6–38 MPa) and time (0–60 s) were adjusted in the experiments; it was found ...

Characterizing perpendicular-to-grain compression (C⊥) behavior in wood construction [PDF]
Current compression perpendicular-to-grain (C⊥) design values for wood members are based on mean stress obtained from ASTM D143 specimen. The standard ASTM test with metal on wood bearing has limited applicability in modern construction assemblies with C⊥

Radial compression strength can predict the hydraulic vulnerability of mature Norway spruce sapwood
Hydraulic testing of isolated sapwood from mature tree trunks is time-consuming and prone to errors, whereas the measurement of compression strength is a standardized and rapid wood technological application.
