Diabetes Mellitus Facilitates Gallstone Formation Through CXCR2‐NETs–Mediated Liver‐Bile Barrier Damage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Diabetes is an independent risk factor for gallstones. It upregulates CXCR2 expression in hepatic neutrophils, stimulating the formation of NETs that disrupt hepatocellular tight junctions and the liver‐bile barrier. NETs enter bile to accelerate gallstone development, while sarcosine inhibits CXCR2 and NETs production, effectively reducing diabetes ...

Life cycle emissions associated with vault storage of wood cleared for fire management in the Western United States

open access: yesCarbon Balance and Management
Background Climate change, fire suppression, and human encroachment contribute to increasingly intense forest fires in the Western United States, releasing hundreds of millions of metric tons (MMT) CO2/year.

Pan‐3D Genome Analysis Reveals the Roles of Structural Variation in Chicken Chromatin Architectures, Domestication and Production Traits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study firstly presents a comprehensive and high‐resolution pan‐3D genome resource in chicken. Our findings reveal the role of structural variations in 3D genome architectures, and how they influence the domestication process and production traits at the 3D genome level.

Diversity of bryophyte flora and vegetation on rotten wood in rain and montane forests of northeastern Tanzania [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Decomposing wood forms the substrate for special lignicolous, hygrophilous, and sciophilous plant communities. In a moist tropical forest, vegetation on this substrate consists mostly of bryophytes. The material gathered from Mt.

Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...
