Climate sensitivity of radial growth in Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) under different CO2 concentrations

open access: yesMetsanduslikud Uurimused, 2016
This investigation examined the effects of two different carbon dioxide concentrations ([CO2]): Ambient (A, 385 μmol (CO2) mol−1) and elevated (E, A+385 μmol (CO2) mol−1)) on the tree-ring width and early to latewood proportion in Norway spruce for seven

Structure Formation in Engineered Wood Using Wood Waste and Biopolyurethane

open access: yesMaterials
This research aims to find suitable processing methods that allow the reuse of wood waste to produce wood waste-based engineered wood logs for construction that meet the strength requirements for structural timber for sawn structural softwood. Three types of wood waste were examined: wood packaging waste (W), waste from the construction and furniture ...

Transcriptome-based WGCNA reveals the molecular regulation of xylem plasticity in acclimation to drought and rewatering in mulberry

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Xylem plasticity is important for trees to coordinate hydraulic efficiency and safety under changing soil water availability. However, the physiological and transcriptional regulations of cambium on xylem plasticity are not well understood. In this study,

Performance Characteristics of Anti‐Collagen II Antibodies in Relapsing Polychondritis and Related Diseases: Prospective Analysis, Systematic Review, and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background Relapsing polychondritis (RP) is a rare disease defined by recurrent cartilaginous inflammation. Anti‐collagen II (anti‐Col2) antibodies have been proposed as a diagnostic biomarker for RP, but their performance characteristics are not well defined.

Roles for epigenetics in wood formation and stress response intrees–from basic biology to forest management

open access: yesFrontiers in Epigenetics and Epigenomics
Annual model and crop species have been the subject of most epigenetic studies for plants. In contrast to annuals, forest trees persist on natural landscapes and experience environmental variation within and across seasons, years, and decades or even ...

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...
