Study of resistance of thermomodified wood to the influence of natural conditions [PDF]
Abstract It is established that thermal modification provides a decrease in the hydrophobicity of wood. Additional wood surface treatment reduces water absorption factor of 2 and modified sample at a temperature of 220°C – 3 times. Geometric and dimensional stability is improved by 2 times.

Consumer Willingness to Pay for a Naturally Decay-Resistant Wood Product [PDF]
Abstract Chromated copper arsenate (CCA) is the most widely used chemical wood preservative in the United States. Concerns about the safety of CCA led to an agreement between the Environmental Protection Agency and the wood treatment industry to withdraw CCA for nonindustrial uses by the end of 2003. In light of the publicity surrounding

Utilization of temperature kinetics as a method to predict treatment intensity and corresponding treated wood quality : durability and mechanical properties of thermally modified wood [PDF]
Wood heat treatment is an attractive alternative to improve decay resistance of wood species with low natural durability. However, this improvement of durability is realized at the expense of the mechanical resistance.

A novel fiber-veneer laminated composite based on tannin resin [PDF]
Natural non-woven fiber was impregnated with a tannin resin and laminated with wood veneer for preparation of laminated composites. The tannin resin used showed a good compatibility with the natural fiber, and easy to assemble with the wood veneers.

Survey on the natural resistance to decay of five hundred tropical wood species
The natural durability of wood species against rot has again become a matter of interest for the uses of wood as a natural material, while the use of synthetic fungicides is being debated. In the mid-20th century, many experimental studies were performed in Europe and North America, using different standardised protocols.

Phenolic Extractives and Natural Resistance of Wood
Wood is a natural organic material that consists mainly of two groups of organic compounds: carbohydrates (hemicelluloses and cellulose) and phenols (lignin), that correspond to (65-75%) and (20-30%), respectively (Pettersen 1984). The wood is also constituted of minor amounts of extraneous materials, mostly in the form of organic extractives (usually ...
