Edge Effects and Pitfall Trap Design Influence Spider Diversity and Assemblages in Canola Agroecosystems on the Canadian Prairies

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
Spiders are important generalist predators in canola agroecosystems, but their diversity remains poorly studied on the Canadian Prairies. We surveyed spider assemblages in the Aspen Parkland region and tested pitfall trap modifications to improve sampling.

Seismic Performance of Lightweight Steel Shear Walls With Gypsum Sheathing: Experimental Investigation

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 54, Issue 11, Page 2900-2926, September 2025.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the structural performance of cold‐formed steel (CFS) shear walls sheathed with gypsum panels, in accordance with the forthcoming Eurocode 8 seismic design guidelines for ductility class 3 (DC3) buildings. Utilizing a multiscale experimental approach, the research involved material testing, component‐level evaluations ...

Lateral Load Resistance of Laminated Veneer Lumber Sengonwooden Joints with Wooden Dowels

open access: yesMakara Journal of Technology, 2015
Analytical models for wooden-doweled joints need to be developed. The objective of this research is to determine whether the strength of wooden-doweled joints can be well predicted by equations developed for steel-doweled joints. In this experiment, various connection parameters, such as dowel diameter, species of the wooden dowel, and angle of joints,

The Louder, the Longer: Object Length Perception Is Influenced by Loudness, but Not by Pitch

open access: yesVision, 2019
Sound by itself can be a reliable source of information about an object’s size. For instance, we are able to estimate the size of objects merely on the basis of the sound they make when falling on the floor.

Determination of bending moment resistance of t-type joints constructed with wood biscuit [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Wood and Paper Industries, 2014
The goal of this study was to investigate effects of wood species (Beech and Fir), number of connectors (1 and 2), size of biscuit (10 and 20) and type of adhesives (Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), polyurethane (PU) and urea-formaldehyde (UF)) on bending ...
