Construction and Evaluation of a Ballistic Gelatin‐Based Simulator for Transcervical Chorionic Villus Sampling

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasound in Medicine, Volume 45, Issue 6, Page 1297-1306, June 2026.
Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a crucial prenatal diagnostic tool, but a declining number of procedures makes training a challenge. Here we describe a transcervical CVS simulator made from ballistic gelatin. Ninety‐three Maternal‐Fetal Medicine providers used the simulators during hands‐on workshops and completed surveys regarding their fidelity ...

Bending stress modeling of dismountable furniture joints applied with a use of finite element method

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2009
Presented work focuses on bending moment stress modeling of dismountable furniture joints with a use of Finite Element Method. The joints are created from Minifix and Rondorfix cams combined with non-glued wooden dowels.

Valorization of Poplar Wood Wastes Into 3D‐Printed Soya Oil‐Based Composites by Vat Photopolymerization for Interior Design

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, Volume 64, Issue 11, Page 2351-2367, 1 June 2026.
Bio‐based polymer composites were 3D printed by LCD vat photopolymerization using acrylate epoxidized soybean oil as the monomer and isobornyl methacrylate as the reactive diluent. Two different poplar powders derived from plywood processing waste were incorporated within the photocurable formulations.

Reintroduction of an Endangered Butterfly, the Mottled Duskywing (Erynnis martialis)

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 261-273, June 2026.
We reintroduced Mottled Duskywing (Erynnis martialis), an endangered skipper butterfly, at different life‐stages to restored oak savanna habitat in Ontario, Canada and then performed intensive post‐release monitoring. Our results show that, at one of three sites, a population was established within two years of initiating releases and that pupae and ...

The Louder, the Longer: Object Length Perception Is Influenced by Loudness, but Not by Pitch

open access: yesVision, 2019
Sound by itself can be a reliable source of information about an object’s size. For instance, we are able to estimate the size of objects merely on the basis of the sound they make when falling on the floor.

Large Wood Retention in Forested River Corridors During Overbank Flood Events: Insights From Flume Experiments

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Understanding large wood (LW) dynamics on floodplains is important for closing wood budgets and predicting hazards associated with LW. We conducted 38 experiments in a fixed‐bed flume to examine how forest stand density (FSD), wood transport regime, and overbank flood magnitude affect floodplain LW retention.

Characterizing the Three‐Dimensional Flow in Partially Vegetated Channels

open access: yesWater Resources Research, 2023
Partially obstructed shear flows, such as flows over submerged vegetation patches in river systems, are common in natural environments. Here, a model of a patchily‐vegetated river flow, using staggered arrays of rigid wooden dowels, is used to ...

Directed Navigation of Magnetotactic Bacteria via Magnetotaxis in a 3D Vasculature‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 4, 19 February 2026.
A perfusable vascular network is developed to investigate MTB at the single‐microorganism level. MTB is demonstrated to successfully align and navigate along the magnetic field inside the microvessels. Abstract Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB), inherently motile and self‐powered, are promising biorobotic candidates for targeted anti‐cancer drug delivery ...

Effects of dowels on the mechanical properties of wooden composite beams in ancient timber structures

open access: yesBioResources, 2021
In order to provide more accurate suggestions for the restoration of ancient timber buildings, five types of specimens were designed for static loading tests. The tree species used for the specimens was larch. The wooden composite beams were composed of purlins, tie plates, and fangs.

Experimental investigations and design of precast concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet slender columns with intermediate connection

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 193-210, February 2026.
Abstract Concrete‐filled steel corrugated sheet (CFSCS) offers confinement to the core concrete while the outer galvanized corrugated steel sheet (GCSS) offers excellent corrosion resistance. Application of precast multiple CFSCS columns connected through high‐performance concrete (HPC) in constructing a slender column offers ease of construction while
