Stemflow Hydrodynamics

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 63, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract Stemflow hydrodynamics is the study of water movement along the exterior surface area of plants. Its primary goal is to describe water velocity and water depth along the stem surface area. Its significance in enriching the rhizosphere with water and nutrients is not in dispute.

Hydraulics and Structural Mechanics Jointly Shape Root‐to‐Leaf Scaling of Xylem Conduit Traits

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page 6912-6923, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Xylem conduit morphology is shaped by the challenges of minimizing hydraulic resistance and preventing conduit wall collapse during vertical sap transport. While hydraulic theories predict that conduits widen from tip to base to minimize resistance, theory has not addressed how collapse prevention influences vertical variation in conduit ...

Impact of parasite sympatry on the geographic mosaic of coevolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Slave-making ants are specialized social parasites that steal the young from colonies of their host species to augment their slave supply. The degree of parasite–host specialization has been shown to shape the trajectory along which parasites and hosts ...

Live fast, die young? Day‐ and night‐warming affect the growth, survivorship, and behavior of caterpillars in the field

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract While both daytime and nighttime temperatures are increasing with climate change, few studies have experimentally investigated their differential effects under field conditions. We conducted a factorial field experiment examining how day‐ and night‐warming impact the growth, survivorship, and behavior of cabbage white caterpillars (Pieris ...

Standardized performance tests of collectors of solar thermal energy: An evacuated flatplate copper collector with a serpentine flow distribution [PDF]

open access: yes
Basic test results are given for a flat plate solar collector whose performance was determined in the NASA-Lewis solar simulator. The collector was tested over ranges of inlet temperatures, fluxes and one coolant flow rate.

Mechanical Evaluation and XRD/TG Investigation on the Properties of Wooden Dowel Welding

open access: yesBioResources, 2017
Mechanical properties related to wooden dowel welding were studied using five different moisture content (MC) values. Birch wooden dowels and Chinese larch substrates were used in this study. A 2% MC for the wooden dowels and a 12% MC for the substrates resulted in the highest pullout resistance.

Intervertebral Lumbar Spine Kinematics in Chronic Low Back Pain Patients Measured Using Biplane Radiography

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
This study comprehensively characterized dynamic lumbar spine kinematics during active flexion/extension and lateral bending under physiologic loading in individuals with cLBP. The results demonstrate the heterogeneity in lumbar spine intervertebral kinematics in individuals with cLBP.
