Word segmentation based on prosody in Parkinson’s Disease

open access: yesClinical Linguistics & Phonetics, 2020
While Parkinson's Disease (PD) impacts the production of prosody and may lead to dysprosody, its effect on the perception of prosody is less clear. In the current study, we investigated how people with PD (PwPD) segment continuous speech using prosodic cues. We used phonemically identical and prosodically different sequences in French.

Absorption of Broadband Low‐Frequency Sound Beyond the Thermodynamics Limit: An Acoustic Resonator With Magnetic Bearing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a magnetic‐bearing acoustic resonator that overcomes the thermodynamics limit of sound absorption. By introducing tunable negative stiffness, it achieves broadband low‐frequency absorption within a compact cavity, far exceeding the performance achievable by classic mass‐tuned designs.

Phrasal prosody constrains word segmentation in French 16-month-olds

open access: yesJournal of Portuguese Linguistics, 2011
Infants who are in the process of acquiring their mother tongue have to find a way of segmenting the continuous speech stream into word-sized units.

Fluency Interventions for Elementary Students with Reading Difficulties: A Synthesis of Research from 2000–2019

open access: yesEducation Sciences, 2020
Oral reading fluency (ORF) deficits are a hallmark of reading difficulties. The impact of fluency struggles extends beyond word-level difficulties to include deficits in reading comprehension.

Prosody in bilingual caregiver's infant-directed speech : cues for infants' acquisition of their languages' intonational structure

open access: yes, 2022
Adults rely on various cues to differentiate among utterance types (e.g., declarative vs. interrogative utterances), including the conversational context, morpho-syntactic markers, and intonation.

Plant Metabolites Screening Identifies 7‐epi‐10‐Deacetyltaxol Inhibiting Cell Division by Interfering With the Cell Cycle and Microtubule Organization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, an efficient screening system is developed for plant metabolites to find a compound, 7‐epi‐10‐deacetyltaxol, inhibits tissue elongation. It suppresses plant growth through brassinosteroid and microtubule pathways. It is later applied to animal cells and human tumor organoids, resulting in similar cell division suppression. These findings

Quantifying Consumer Tradeoffs Across Firm‐Level Strategic Positioning Dimensions: Evidence from US Craft Beer Consumers

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Strategic positioning becomes increasingly important as markets mature, particularly in consumer‐facing industries that offer similar products, experiential cues, and values‐based messages. This study offers a conceptual model to examine the strategic positioning factors that motivate consumers to visit one local business over another before ...

Hybrid of Evolutionary and Swarm Intelligence Algorithms for Prosody Modeling in Natural Speech Synthesis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Information and Communication Technology Research, 2016
To reduce the number of input features to a prosody generator in natural speech synthesis application, a hybrid of an evolutionary algorithm and a swarm intelligence-based algorithm is used for feature selection (FS) in this study.

Accelerating Biosensor Discovery: A Computationally‐Driven Pipeline for Microplastics Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A computationally guided pipeline unites molecular simulation, synthetic biology, electrochemical engineering, and machine learning to accelerate biosensor discovery. A Bacillus anthracis carbohydrate‐binding module is used to develop a high‐performance micro‐ and nanoplastics sensor with greatly reduced error and variability.
