Workflow management systems: a survey
ICCT'98. 1998 International Conference on Communication Technology. Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.98EX243), 2002Workflow management systems can help business goals to be achieved with high efficiency by means of sequencing work activities and invoking appropriate human and/or information resources associated with these activities. As computer networks are used more and more widely in daily work, workflow management attracts more and more attention from both ...

Workflow Management Systems in Distributed Environments
2011With the advent of Service Oriented Architectures, more applications are built in a distributed manner based on loose coupled services. In this context, Workflow Management Systems play an important role as they are the means to both define the processes that realize the application goals as well as implement the orchestration of the different services.

Workflow Systems and Knowledge Management
2006The business reengineering movement has left two lasting benefits: One is the identification of an organization as a set of processes (Davenport, 1993); the other is an emphasis on knowledge management (Davenport, 1997). The process orientation finds an expression in workflow systems. Processes have to be supported by knowledge management.

Enterprise frameworks for workflow management systems
Software: Practice and Experience, 2002AbstractThis paper proposes an enterprise framework for workflow management (WFM) systems based on the Workflow Management Coalition generic architecture. In addition, it presents one smaller object‐oriented framework for task scheduling. This framework is obtained by refining one of the packages of the overall framework.

Time Management in Workflow Systems
1999Management of workflow processes is more than just enactment of process activities according to business rules. Time management functionality should be provided to control the lifecycle of processes. Time management should address planning of workflow executions in time, provide various estimates about activity execution durations, avoid violations of ...

ADEPT Workflow Management System
2003In this tool presentation we give an overview of the ADEPT workflow management system (WfMS), which is one of the few available research prototypes dealing with enterprise-wide, adaptive work- flow (WF) management. ADEPT offers sophisticated modeling concepts and advanced features, like temporal constraint management, ad-hoc WF changes, WF schema ...

Workflow management systems for guideline implementation
Neurological Sciences, 2006The activities of care providers need to be coordinated within a process properly designed on the basis of available best practice medical knowledge. It requires a rethinking of the management of care processes within health-care organisations. The current workflow technology seems to offer the most convenient solution to build such cooperative systems.

Evaluation of Workflow Management Systems
2009 IEEE Conference on Commerce and Enterprise Computing, 2009Workflow technology promises an increase in efficiency in the execution of business processes. The technology is widely accepted, but often the high costs exceed the promised benefits. Most companies perform an evaluation of workflow management systems (WFMS) tools before selecting their tool of choice.

Flexibility Schemes for Workflow Management Systems
2009Currently, many hospitals are investigating the use of workflow management systems in order to provide support for healthcare processes. However, contemporary workflow management systems fall short in supporting care processes which require flexible execution options.

Advances in the ProGenGrid Workflow Management System
2008 Ninth International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing, Applications and Technologies, 2008A large-scale simulation in e-science experiments can be modeled by using a workflow. The ProGenGrid workflow management system is being developed at the University of Salento in Lecce since 2004 and consists of an editor for designing the experiment and an engine for scheduling the jobs in a computational grid.
