Evaluation of the Working Surface of the Grinding Wheel Using Speckle Image Analysis

The surface quality of the ground components mainly depends on the surface condition of the grinding wheel. The surface condition of the grinding wheel changes with grinding time due to wheel wear and loading. The excessive wear and loading increases the cutting force and the temperature.

Failure of diamond grains at the working surface of grinding wheels

Diamond grinding wheels are widely used in industry. In Russia, 5.5‐6.5 million carats of synthetic diamond powder is used each year for the production of wheels with organic powder, while 2.5‐3 million carats are used for the production of wheels with metal binder. Wheels with metal binder are employed in machining regular and fancy glass.

Changes in the working surface of siphon refractories during the casting of wheel steel

The amount of loss due to macroinclusions in blanks for railway wheels when the steel is deoxidized with calcium silicon and ferrotitanium is lower than with the use of aluminum as a deoxidant. A reduction in loss results from the adhesion of the macroinclusions to the reaction layer which forms on the working surface of the upper part of the siphon.
