INNOVATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS OF THE TRANS-PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

open access: yesReview of Innovation and Competitiveness, 2016
Twelve Pacific Rim countries that account for forty percent of world output and more than a quarter of world trade have signed a Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement. Assuming that the agreement is ratified and implemented by the signatory countries,

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Geopolitics and the World Trading System

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal
Until the beginning of this century, the GATT/WTO system worked. Economic research provided a compelling explanation. It showed that if governments maximize the well-being of their own countries broadly defined, GATT/WTO principles would facilitate mutually beneficial cooperation over their trade policy choices.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

The Trade Union`s Italian System: an evolution missed by Brasil

open access: yesRevista de Estudios Brasileños, 2016
This paper discusses the Italian trade union’s system and the finding about the distinct evolution of the Brazilian and Italian models. Despite both systems had a very similar model before the World War II, Italy has adopted a trade union’s system that ...

Reducing Trade Inequality: A Network-Based Assessment

open access: yesComplexity, 2020
International trade, the network that underpins globalization, shows an extreme inequality. Despite efforts of multilateral organizations to foster a more fair world through trade agreements, it is hard to assess the effect of these changes on such a ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

The Threats to the World Trading System

open access: yesThe World Economy, 1992
Considers here the prospects for the GATT-focused multilateral trading system, the perils it faces and the promise it nonetheless holds. The threats faced at present by the GATT arise from a variety of factors, including changes in the world economy. Recalling the preamble to the GATT, and mindful of its central articles, the following may justifiably ...
