An analytical design model for wound rotor synchronous machines

2013 IEEE Electric Ship Technologies Symposium (ESTS), 2013
Optimization-based design of electric machinery over a large design space requires the use of computationally efficient models to predict machine behavior. In this work, an analytical design model is developed for wound rotor synchronous machines (WRSMs), a key technology for power generation in marine applications.

Design of wound rotor low-voltage synchronous generator

2011 XXIII International Symposium on Information, Communication and Automation Technologies, 2011
Magnetic circuit design of wound rotor low-voltage three-phase synchronous generator for autonomous operation is presented in this paper. The Maxwell software based on two-dimensional finite element method (2D FEM) is used to study the performance of the synchronous generator in specified static operating regime.

Study on rotor magnetomotive force comparison of doubly-fed brushless machine with cage rotor or wound rotor

2005 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2005
This paper detailedly studies the rotor magnetomotive force of doubly-fed brushless machine with cage or wound rotor, comparatively analyzes the magnetomotive force produced by rotor conductor at unit conductor on the condition that the rotor slot occupancy ratio and the conductor numbers are in consistency, and points out that, for of doubly-fed ...

Control of rotor torque and rotor electric power in a reluctance wound Rotor Brushless doubly fed machine

2009 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2009
In this paper, decoupled control of rotor torque and rotor electric power in a reluctance wound rotor brushless doubly fed machine, (BDFM), is presented. The machine stator windings are fed from two separate voltage source inverters. The proposed control technique is applied to the inverters such that the BDFM is capable of producing mechanical torque ...

Study of Noise and Vibration in Wound Rotor Resolvers

2020 28th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE), 2020
Resolvers are position sensors that are widely used in harsh environments. It means in polluted surroundings with wide temperature variations, and high vibrations resolvers are preferred to optical encoders that are their main competitors. Those features are commonly justified according to the electromechanical structure of resolvers as the special ...

Sensorless Starting of Wound Rotor Synchronous Machines

2019 21st European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE '19 ECCE Europe), 2019
The sensorless operation of wound rotor synchronous machines (WRSM) must meet several requirements. The most important to be mentioned is how to insure starting at full load and then operating at low speed in the presence of magnetic saturation. This work presents a solution for high power machines by combining a method of rotor location by high ...

Stepless starting of wound-rotor induction motors

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part II: Applications and Industry, 1962
This paper gives experimental and calculated speed-torque-current curves for a slip-ring induction motor with an automatically controlled secondary impedance to obtain stepless starting with low current, high sustained torque, and low full-load slip. A saturable reactor in the secondary circuit is supplied with a control current from a direct-connected

Durability of filament-wound composite flywheel rotors

Mechanics of Time-Dependent Materials, 2011
This paper predicts the durability of two types of flywheels, one assumes to fail in the radial direction and the other assumes to fail in the circumferential direction. The flywheel failing in the radial direction is a conventional filament-wound composite flywheel and the one failing in the circumferential direction is a tailor-made type.
