A numerical study on the influence of composite wrinkle defect geometry on compressive strength

open access: yesMaterials and Design, 2018
Out-of-plane winkling in continuous-fibre reinforced composites has a significant influence on compressive failure stress, which needs to be considered and evaluated during the design, manufacture and inspection stages, to achieve high-performance ...

The Maximal Wrinkle Angle During the Bubble Collapse and Its Application to the Bubble Electrospinning

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
Polymer bubbles are ubiquitously used for the fabrication of nanofibers by the bubble electrospinning. When a bubble is broken, the fragments tend to be wrinkled.

Parametric study of the effect of wrinkle features on the strength of a tapered wind turbine blade sub-structure

open access: yesComposite Structures, 2019
Out of plane wrinkle defects are a major cause of strength reduction in structural composites. Therefore, this paper presents the numerical modelling of a wind turbine blade sub-structure with a tapered beam and a wrinkle.

Investigation of the effect of wrinkle features on wind turbine blade sub-structure strength

open access: yesComposite Structures, 2019
Wrinkles are known to have a strong knock-down on the mechanical performance of structures made from composite materials. Here, static tensile tests were conducted to investigate the effect of wrinkle features on the strength of a wind turbine blade sub ...

Effect of Eccentric Tension on the Response of Wrinkle Defects in Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Composite Laminates

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Composite pressure vessels (CPVs) have become the main equipment for hydrogen storage; however, the effect of defect in the laminates of CPVs is difficult to detect.

Static and Dynamic Optical Analysis of Micro Wrinkle Formation on a Liquid Surface

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
A spatially periodic voltage was used to create a dielectrophoresis induced periodic micro wrinkle deformation on the surface of a liquid film. Optical Coherence Tomography provided the equilibrium wrinkle profile at submicron accuracy.

Improving the Dyeability and Anti-Wrinkle Properties of Cotton Fabric via Oxidized Raffinose

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
In the anti-wrinkle finishing of cotton fabrics, the decreased dyeability of the finished fabrics has always been a difficult problem. A new anti-wrinkle finishing mode was developed to solve this problem by changing the finishing sequence of fabric ...

The Effect of Oxygen Plasma Treatment on Wrinkle Resistance of Cellulose Acetate Based Fabric

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2022
In this study, cellulose acetate-based fabrics were subjected to a resin-based wrinkle-resistant treatment. The fabric samples were treated with oxygen plasma for 1 and 5 minutes with a power of 100W prior the wrinkle-resistance finishing to enhance ...

Efficient radiative cooling coating with biomimetic human skin wrinkle structure

open access: yes, 2021
Daytime radiative cooling is an energy-free pathway to achieve cooling performance. Current radiative cooling materials with periodic photonic structures are facing a huge challenge in terms of scale expansion owing to complex preparation technology and ...

Oblique wrinkles [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2017
We prove theoretically that when a soft solid is subjected to an extreme deformation, wrinkles can form on its surface at an angle that is oblique to a principal direction of stretch. These oblique wrinkles occur for a strain that is smaller than the one required to obtain wrinkles normal to the direction of greatest compression.
