Writer Retrieval and Writer Identification in Greek Papyri
The analysis of digitized historical manuscripts is typically addressed by paleographic experts. Writer identification refers to the classification of known writers while writer retrieval seeks to find the writer by means of image similarity in a dataset of images.

Writer Identification and Writer Retrieval Using Vision Transformer for Forensic Documents
Writer identification and writer retrieval deal with the analysis of handwritten documents regarding the authorship and are used, for example, in forensic investigations. In this paper, we present a writer identification and writer retrieval method based

Towards the Influence of Text Quantity on Writer Retrieval
This paper investigates the task of writer retrieval, which identifies documents authored by the same individual within a dataset based on handwriting similarities. While existing datasets and methodologies primarily focus on page level retrieval, we explore the impact of text quantity on writer retrieval performance by evaluating line- and word level ...

Application of information retrieval techniques to single writer documents [PDF]
This work shows Information Retrieval experiments performed over handwritten documents produced by a single writer. The same retrieval task has been performed over both manual (no errors) and automatic (Word Error Rate around 45%) transcriptions of 200 handwritten texts. The results show that the performance loss due to recognition errors is acceptable

Towards Writer Retrieval for Historical Datasets
This paper presents an unsupervised approach for writer retrieval based on clustering SIFT descriptors detected at keypoint locations resulting in pseudo-cluster labels. With those cluster labels, a residual network followed by our proposed NetRVLAD, an encoding layer with reduced complexity compared to NetVLAD, is trained on 32x32 patches at keypoint ...

Re-Ranking for Writer Identification and Writer Retrieval [PDF]
Automatic writer identification is a common problem in document analysis. State-of-the-art methods typically focus on the feature extraction step with traditional or deep-learning-based techniques. In retrieval problems, re-ranking is a commonly used technique to improve the results.

Writer Retrieval and Writer Identification Using Local Features
2012 10th IAPR International Workshop on Document Analysis Systems, 2012Writer identification determines the writer of one document among a number of known writers where at least one sample is known. Writer retrieval searches all documents of one particular writer by creating a ranking of the similarity of the handwriting in a dataset.

Writer Identification and Retrieval Using a Convolutional Neural Network
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2015In this paper a novel method for writer identification and retrieval is presented. Writer identification is the process of finding the author of a specific document by comparing it to documents in a database where writers are known, whereas retrieval is the task of finding similar handwritings or all documents of a specific writer. The method presented
