Language, Perception, and Task Design: Multiple Factors Contribute to Children's Understanding of Pitch Metaphors

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Language and perception are intimately linked in human cognition, yet the precise nature of their interaction remains unclear. In the domain of auditory pitch, languages often use metaphors by borrowing terminology from other domains. However, studies examining children's understanding of pitch metaphors have produced notably conflicting ...

Attenuation of the gerbil writhing response by mu-, kappa- and delta-opioids, and NK-1, -2 and -3 receptor antagonists

open access: yes
mu-, kappa- and delta-opioid receptor agonists are reported to attenuate the acetic-acid-induced abdominal constriction response in mice. NK-1, -2 and -3 receptor antagonists also display activity in several visceral pain models.

Determination of analgesic potential of Helicteres isora and molecular involvement of opioids and GABA receptors

open access: yesPhytomedicine Plus
Herbal medicines are used as a source of therapeutic agents as they are safer and less toxic than synthetic drugs. Several species of Helicteres isora (Sterculiaceae) have been documented in folk medicine to have analgesic properties. This study is aimed

Ten Years of Fishway Detections Reveal Species‐Specific Flow and Temperature Cues for Upstream Migration in a Regulated River

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 7, November/December 2026.
ABSTRACT River regulation has disrupted flow regimes that promote fish movement, contributing to population declines. Restoring hydrological cues through managed environmental flows can support recovery yet requires understanding how river flow drives movement.

Not All Missing Data are Equal: Choosing the Right Imputation Method for Binary Datasets

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, Volume 42, Issue 8, Page 4661-4676, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Missing binary predictors are common in reliability, quality control, and industrial decision systems, yet imputation methods are often chosen by convenience rather than evidence. We conduct a Monte Carlo study comparing mode substitution, sequential hot‐deck, missForest, MICE, and KNN with three neighbourhood sizes under MCAR, MAR, and MNAR ...
