Lymphatic pathology in Wuchereria bancrofti microfilaraemic infections

OBSERVATIONS ON SPERMATOGENESIS IN ONCHOCERCA VOLVULUS AND WUCHERERIA BANCROFTI
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1966Serial sections of onchocercomata revealed that in O. volvulus during spermatogenesis the spermatocyte divides twice to give rise to four spermatids. The spermatid develops into an elongate, narrow, smooth-walled spermatozoan, which, upon entering the female genital tract, becomes rounded and probably amoeboid.

Prevalence of Wuchereria bancrofti in Georgetown, Guyana.
Bulletin of the Pan American Health Organization, 1990A random sample bloodsmear survey was conducted during evening hours in Georgetown, Guyana, to determine the prevalence of Wuchereria bancrofti microfilariae. In all, 182 of 2,818 persons tested (6.5%) yielded positive results--indicating that the overall prevalence of Bancroftian filariasis has not diminished and may be on the rise.
