A Novel Parameter Estimation Method for Pneumatic Soft Hand Control Applying Logarithmic Decrement for Pseudo‐Rigid Body Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
In this research, a paradigm of parameter estimation method for pneumatic soft hand control is proposed. The method includes the following: 1) sampling harmonic damping waves, 2) applying pseudo‐rigid body modeling and the logarithmic decrement method, and 3) deriving position and force control.

Vibrations from Wind Turbines Increased Self-Pollination of Native Forbs, and White Bases Attracted Pollinators: Evidence Along a 28 km Gradient in a Natural Area

open access: yesWind
Knowledge of how wind turbines interact with vertebrate animals is growing rapidly; however, less is known about plants and insects. Turbines produce infrasound (≤20 Hz), and these vibrations decrease with distance from turbines. We measured seed set and

Provisional methods to guide species‐specific seed transfer in ecological restoration

open access: yesEcosphere, 2018
Transferring plant material during ecological restoration has inherent risk. The use of seed transfer guidelines minimizes the possibility of introducing maladapted genotypes.

Automating the Implementation of the Updated Grade Severity Rating System (GSRS) for Wyoming Mountain Passes [PDF]

open access: yes
RS08220Truck crashes on steep downgrades caused by excessive brake heating is an ongoing concern for the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). Crashes resulting from brake failure on downgrades cause a devastating toll on lives and property.

Tandem Neural Network Rapidly Solves Multivalued Inverse Problems: Application to Oxide‐Semiconductor Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A tandem neural network directly solves the multivalued inverse problem of extracting semiconductor parameters from transistor measurements. Trained on only 1000 simulations, the network infers six material parameters (e.g., defect states, carrier concentration, mobility) in under 1 ms, demonstrating a broadly applicable framework for semiconductor ...

Impact of Cattaneo–Christov Heat and Mass Flux on MHD Hybrid Nanofluid Flow Over an Extending Surface With Convective and Mass Flux Effects

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the flow of a magnetized hybrid nanofluid over a permeable stretching surface. The mass and thermal transport within the system is regulated using the Cattaneo–Christov flux theory. The fluid is additionally subjected to thermophoresis, chemical reaction, Brownian motion, and activation energy effects.

Disparate home range dynamics reflect nutritional inadequacies on summer range for a large herbivore

open access: yesEcosphere
The spatial distribution of animals has consequences for nutrition, predator–prey dynamics, spread of diseases, and population dynamics in general. Animals must establish a home range to secure adequate resources to fuel their energy needs.

Controlled synthesis of Eu2+ and Eu3+ doped ZnS quantum dots and their photovoltaic and magnetic properties

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
Eu-doped ZnS quantum dots (QDs) have been synthesized by wet-chemical method and found to form in zinc blende (cubic) structure. Both Eu2+ and Eu3+ doped ZnS can be controllably synthesized.

Cranial anatomy of a Late Cretaceous aspidorhynchid fish (Neopterygii: Aspidorhynchiformes) from Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Belonostomus longirostrisis was named for an isolated jaw fragment from freshwater Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) sediments of the Dinosaur Park Formation of Alberta, Canada. Following the description of the Albertan species, numerous isolated cranial and postcranial elements have been collected from the Dinosaur Park Formation and assigned to B.
