Extended target tracking applied to X-band marine radar data

OCEANS 2015 - Genova, 2015
X-band marine radar systems are flexible and low-cost tools for monitoring multiple targets in a surveillance area. They are able to provide high resolution measurements in both space and time. Such features offer the opportunity to get accurate information not only about the targets' kinematics but also about the targets' extents.

Research on Detection of Rainfall Noise Based on Marine X-Band Radar

2018 IEEE 3rd International Conference on Image, Vision and Computing (ICIVC), 2018
In order to effectively detect the rainfall noise in the marine X-band radar data, an algorithm is proposed based on the high intensity and high density characteristics of rainfall noise. By means of the algorithm, the preliminary detection is firstly realized by binarization processing and texture feature analysising, then using region growing ...

An alternative method for surface current extraction from X-band marine radar images

2014 IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2014
In this paper, a novel current inversion algorithm from X-band marine radar images is proposed. The routine begins with a 3D-FFT of the radar image sequence, followed by the extraction of the dispersion shell from the 3-D image spectrum. After a polar coordinate transformation, the "polar current shell" is then analyzed to retrieve current information ...

GLUE based marine X-band weather radar data calibration and uncertainty estimation

Urban Water Journal, 2014
The Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation methodology (GLUE) is investigated for radar rainfall calibration and uncertainty assessment. The method is used to calibrate radar data collected by a Local Area Weather Radar (LAWR).In contrast to other LAWR data calibrations, the method combines calibration with uncertainty estimation.

The significant wave height distribution retrieved from marine X-band radar images

2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2012
The determination of significant wave height (SWH) from marine X-band radar image sequences is based on an empirical relationship with the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). To reduce the dependence of in-situ calibrations, the variations of SNR with the range from the radar station and the relative azimuth between the antenna looking angle and the wave ...

X-band marine radar as a site assessment tool in the Minas Passage

2019
X-band marine radar is investigated as tidal energy site assessment tool in the Minas Passage. The three-dimensional wavenumber-frequency image spectrum can be extracted from radar backscatter timeseries data via Fourier analysis. The doppler-shifted dispersion relation can be extracted from the image spectrum and used to estimate surface current.
