X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Giant Magnetic Coercivity Driven by Spin‐Bag Ferromagnetism in Epitaxial Sr3YCo4O10+δ Films with Engineered 2D Oxygen Vacancy Ordering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A giant magnetic coercivity and a vertical shift of hysteresis loops are demonstrated in Sr3YCo4O10+δ epitaxial films. The hard magnetic behavior originates from ferromagnetic spin bags stabilized within a long‐range ordered oxygen‐vacancy structure.

Antiferromagnetic coupling of TbPc2 molecules to ultrathin Ni and Co films

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2013
The magnetic and electronic properties of single-molecule magnets are studied by X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism. We study the magnetic coupling of ultrathin Co and Ni films that are epitaxially grown onto a Cu(100 ...

Room‐Temperature Synthesis of Strongly Confined Lead Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
CsPbX3${\rm CsPbX}_3$ lead halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are synthesized in a room‐temperature, five‐minute synthesis, yielding size‐controlled QDs with bright, tunable emission governed by reaction conditions and halide composition. A strongly binding ligand, OD‐PEA, ensures months‐long stability under ambient conditions and facilitates their ...

Correlated Metal LaNiO3 as a p‐Type Transparent Conductor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
p‐type transparent conducting oxides are needed to enable superstrate solar cell geometries with n‐type absorbers. The p‐type correlated metal LaNiO3 combines high optical transmission with low electrical resistivity and is compatible with a range of scalable deposition processes.

X‐Ray Absorption Spectroscopy Probing of Gold Electro‐Oxidation Reveals Intermediate Surficial Au(I)

open access: yesChemElectroChem
While Au electro‐oxidation in acidic aqueous media on a phenomenological level proceeds directly from Au(0) to Au(III), it has previously been suggested that Au(I) states are intermediate species of the oxidation mechanism.

Operando Spectroscopy to Understand Dynamic Structural Changes of Solid Catalysts

open access: yesCHIMIA
Solid materials like heterogeneous catalysts are highly dynamic and continuously tend to change when exposed to the reaction environment. To understand the catalyst system under true reaction conditions, operando spectroscopy is the key to unravel small ...
