Properties of Gamma-Ray Burst Progenitor Stars

open access: yes, 2008
We determine some basic properties of stars that produce spectacular gamma-ray bursts at the end of their life. We assume that accretion of the outer portion of the stellar core by a central black hole fuels the prompt emission, and that fall-back and ...

Statistical Analysis of Multiband Plateaus in Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Plateau features are frequently observed in the afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), yet their physical origins remain under debate. In this work, we compile a sample of 124 GRBs with known redshifts and simultaneous X-ray and optical afterglow ...

Return of 4U 1730–22 after 49 yr Silence: The Peculiar Burst Properties of the 2021/2022 Outbursts Observed by Insight-HXMT

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Staying in quiescence for 49 yr, 4U 1730–22 became active and had two outbursts in 2021 and 2022; 10 thermonuclear X-ray bursts were detected with Insight-HXMT.

Gamma-Ray Bursts: Multiwaveband Spectral Predictions for Blast Wave Models

open access: yes, 1993
In almost any scenario for 'cosmological' gamma-ray bursts (and in many models where they originate in our own Galaxy), the initial energy density is so large that the resulting relativistic plasma expands with $v\sim c$ producing a blast wave ahead of ...

Assembly of Cell‐Seeded 3D Printed Hydrogel Modules with Perfusable Channel Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Macroscale assembly was utilized to prepare perfusable tissue constructs from individually 3D printed hydrogel modules with embedded branched channel networks and port arrays for cell seeding. Novel multi‐material bioreactors were fabricated to facilitate the gluing of individual modules and the perfusion culture of assembled modular constructs seeded ...

The Galactic Population of Magnetars: A Simulation-based Inference Study

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Population synthesis modeling of the observed dynamical and physical properties of a population is a highly effective method for constraining the underlying birth parameters and evolutionary tracks.

The Low-High-Low Trend of Type III Radio Burst Starting Frequencies and Solar Flare Hard X-rays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Using simultaneous X-ray and radio observations from solar flares, we investigate the link between the type III radio burst starting frequency and hard X-ray spectral index.

High‐Throughput Exfoliation of Optoelectronic‐Grade MoS2 via Turbulent‐Flow Wet Jet Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable wet jet milling exfoliation method is demonstrated for producing optoelectronic‐grade MoS2 nanosheets using environmentally friendly ethyl cellulose in ethanol dispersion media. Guided by fluid dynamics modeling, this approach is optimized to achieve record‐high exfoliation throughput and concentration.

Multi-Wavelength Studies of the Optically Dark Gamma-Ray Burst 001025A

open access: yes, 2005
We identify the fading X-ray afterglow of GRB 001025A from XMM-Newton observations obtained 1.9-2.3 days, 2 years, and 2.5 years after the burst. The non-detection of an optical counterpart to an upper limit of R=25.5, 1.20 days after the burst, makes ...
