The pulpits of the Church of Our Lady of Pena in Lisbon: an historical, stylistic and technical study

open access: yesConservar Património, 2014
The subject of this paper is the carved wooden pulpits of the Church of Our Lady of Pena in Lisbon, Portugal. The fact that these objects were not gilded (as the rest of the carved wooden decoration in the church) raised the reinforced interest in their ...

Development of Container Free Sample Exposure for Synchrotron X-ray Footprinting. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The method of X-ray footprinting and mass spectrometry (XFMS) on large protein assemblies and membrane protein samples requires high flux density to overcome the hydroxyl radical scavenging reactions produced by the buffer constituents and the total ...

Determination of 23 Elements in Biological Samples by Wavelength Dispersion X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry with High Pressure Pressed Powder Pellet Preparation

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2014
In the determination of biological samples by X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry, sample powder pellets pressed by traditional sample preparation technique at 220-440 MPa are not compact and smooth, so the sample room of X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry ...

Structural Plasticity and Noncovalent Substrate Binding in the GroEL Apical Domain. A study using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and fluorescence binding studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Advances in understanding how GroEL binds to non-native proteins are reported. Conformational flexibility in the GroEL apical domain, which could account for the variety of substrates that GroEL binds, is illustrated by comparison of several independent ...

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

Identification of Clay Element Content in Fabric Dyeing Process Using X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

open access: yesJurnal Fisika, 2022
Clay in West Sumatra has been used as a natural dye for batik, so the batik is known as clay batik. The dyeing of the cloth is done by boiling and soaking the clay together with the cloth for 10 days. The color of the fabric is caused by certain elements

Unlocking the Power of Quercetin‐Encapsulated Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles: A Multifunctional Approach to Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are investigated for bone regeneration given their remarkable structural and functional properties. MBGNs are functionalized with Mn and Cu and incorporated with quercetin, a natural flavonoid exhibiting antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.
