In this paper, the chromatic alteration of various types of paints, present on mural painting fragments derived from the vaults of The Upper Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi in Italy (12th–13th century), is studied using synchrotron radiation.

Size segregation of irregular granular materials captured by time-resolved 3D imaging
When opening a box of mixed nuts, a common experience is to find the largest nuts at the top. This well-known effect is the result of size-segregation where differently sized ‘particles’ sort themselves into distinct layers when shaken, vibrated or ...

This is the x ray of a 2½-month-old boy who presented with a 2-week history of cough and recent onset of breathlessness and decreased feeding. He had no previous illnesses and his ante-natal scans were normal. Soon after admission, he developed an oxygen requirement of 0.75 l/min. He was pale and feverish with …

ImWIP: Open-source image warping toolbox with adjoints and derivatives
Image warping is a popular tool for modeling deformation and motion in digital images. Inversion of such models requires two related operators: adjoint and differentiated image warping.

A prototype X-ray colour imaging system has been assembled using the principle of tomographic energy-dispersive diffraction imaging (TEDDI). The new system has been tested using samples of nylon-6, aluminium powder and deer antler bone. Non-destructive three-dimensional images of the test objects have been reconstructed on a 300 μm scale with an ...

Experimental X-Ray Ghost Imaging [PDF]
We report an experimental proof of principle for ghost imaging in the hard x-ray energy range. We used a synchrotron x-ray beam that was split using a thin crystal in Laue diffraction geometry. With an ultra-fast imaging camera, we were able to image x-rays generated by isolated electron bunches.

Dental imaging using an ultra-high resolution photon-counting CT system
Clinical photon-counting CT (PCCT) offers a spatial resolution of about 200 µm and might allow for acquisitions close to conventional dental CBCTs. In this study, the capabilities of this new system in comparison to dental CBCTs shall be evaluated. All 8
