Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. VELOCITY MEASUREMENTS IN CAVITATING FLOWS USING FAST X-RAY IMAGING [PDF]
A promising method to measure velocity fields in complex two-phase flows such us cavitating flows is presented. Dynamics of the liquid phase and the bubbles are both investigated.

Two-view topogram-based anatomy-guided CT reconstruction for prospective risk minimization
To facilitate a prospective estimation of the effective dose of an CT scan prior to the actual scanning in order to use sophisticated patient risk minimizing methods, a prospective spatial dose estimation and the known anatomical structures are required.

Polymer composite microtube array produced by meniscus-guided approach
Single freestanding microtubes of poly(methyl methacrylate)/polypyrrole (PMMA/PPy) are produced based on a meniscus-guided approach. A ring-deposit of nanoparticles is first formed in a meniscus solution of PMMA/PPy nanoparticles by outward liquid flow ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Using small-angle X-ray scattering to investigate the compaction behaviour of a granulated clay [PDF]
The compaction behaviour of a commercial granulated clay (magnesium aluminium smectite, gMgSm) was investigated using macroscopic pressure-density measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray microtomography (XμT) and ...

Coherent X-rays reveal anomalous molecular diffusion and cage effects in crowded protein solutions
Understanding protein motion within the cell is crucial for predicting reaction rates and macromolecular transport in the cytoplasm. A key question is how crowded environments affect protein dynamics through hydrodynamic and direct interactions at ...

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have
