A Comprehensive Study of Laboratory-Based Micro-CT for 3D Virtual Histology of Human FFPE Tissue Blocks

open access: yesIEEE Access
Advances in laboratory-based X-ray computed tomography (CT) have enabled X-ray 3D virtual histology. This method shows a great potential as a complementary technique to conventional 2D histology where extensive volumetric sampling is necessary.

Synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy (SRXTM) of brachiopod shell interiors for taxonomy: Preliminary report [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva, 2010
Synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy (SRXTM) is a non-destructive technique for the investigation and visualization of the internal features of solid opaque objects, which allows reconstruction of a complete three-dimensional image

3D elemental imaging of the crustacean Ceriodaphnia by means of SR confocal micro-XRF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Daphnia is a freshwater crustacean (0.2-5 mm height) used for investigating the toxic effects of toxins (e.g. metals) on an ecosystem. Synchrotron radiation based micro X-ray fluorescence (SR micro-XRF) allows the investigation of the trace level metal ...

A holistic multimodal approach to the non-invasive analysis of watercolour paintings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A holistic approach using non-invasive multimodal imaging and spectroscopic techniques to study the materials (pigments, drawing materials and paper) and painting techniques of watercolour paintings is presented.

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

X-ray micro-tomography examination of specimens of deciduous teeth

open access: yesVarna Medical Forum, 2016

Improving dynamic tomography, through maximum a posteriori estimation

open access: yes, 2015
Direct study of pore-scale fluid displacements, and other dynamic (i.e. time-dependent) processes is not feasible with conventional X-ray micro computed tomography (μCT).

Gas flow in near surface comet like porous structures: Application to 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We performed an investigation of a comet like porous surface to study how sub-surface sublimation with subsequent flow through the porous medium can lead to higher gas temperatures at the surface.

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Pore-scale characterization and modelling of CO2 flow in tight sandstones using X-ray micro-CT; Knorringfjellet formation of the Longyearbyen CO2 lab, Svalbard [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Rocks of the Knorringfjellet Formation in Central Spitsbergen form a potential storage reservoir for CO2 below Longyearbyen. They are characterised by a moderate porosity and low permeability.
