Bio‐Inspired Biopolymeric Implantable Platform for Localized and Sustained Drug Delivery in Solid Tumor Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐inspired biopolymeric implantable drug delivery platform enables localized and sustained release of 7‐ethyl‐10‐hydroxycamptothecin (SN‐38) in solid tumor treatment. The three‐dimensional (3D) structured crosslinked‐chitosan implants are fabricated via 3D‐printed molds and provide drug release over 3 months, significantly inhibiting tumor growth ...

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.

Monoclinic structures of niobium trisulfide

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2018
Two new polymorphs of niobium trisulfide are established by single crystal x-ray diffraction. NbS3-iv crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with lattice parameters a = 6.7515(5) Å, b = 4.9736(4) Å, c = 18.1315(13) Å, and β = 90.116(2)°.

Sulfur‐Free Ultrahigh‐Refractive‐Index Polymers Enabled by Densely Packed Oxygen‐Bridged Dibenzofuran‐Cardo Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new class of sulfur‐free, oxygen‐bridged dibenzofuran‐based polymers is developed for ultrahigh‐refractive‐index applications. The rigid π‐extended architecture and enhanced molecular polarizability enable exceptional optical performance, combining refractive indices up to 1.848 with high Abbe numbers and full visible transparency. This work offers a

From Intermolecular Interactions to Texture in Polycrystalline Surfaces of 1,ω-alkanediols (ω = 10–13)

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Differences on herringbone molecular arrangement in two forms of long-chain 1,ω-alkanediols (CnH2n+2O2 with n = 10, 11, 12, 13) are explained from the analysis of O-H···O hydrogen-bond sequences in infinite chains and the role of a C-H···O intramolecular

Sulfation‐Tunable Peptide‐Glycosaminoglycan Hydrogels for Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cell Expansion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Co‐assembly of rationally designed glycosaminoglycan‐binding peptides with sulfated glycosaminoglycans yields supramolecular hydrogels with tunable mechanics and matrix‐mediated cytokine retention. The glycosaminoglycans thereby act as cofactors, driving a coil‐to‐β‐sheet transition that triggers gelation.

Dynamically Actuated Reconfigurable Topographical Surface Enables Active Control of Implant‐Associated Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dynamically actuated reconfigurable topographical surface (DARTS) integrates contact‐mediated bactericidal nanotopography with programmable mechanical actuation to actively disrupt bacterial biofilms. Dynamic surface reconfiguration enhances bacterial killing and suppresses implant‐associated infections in vivo, providing a new strategy for active ...

Diffraction theory applied to X-ray imaging with clessidra prism array lenses

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2008
Clessidra (hourglass) lenses, i.e. two large prisms each composed of smaller identical prisms or prism-like objects, can focus X-rays. As these lenses have a periodic structure perpendicular to the incident radiation, they will diffract the beam like a diffraction grating. Refraction in the prisms is responsible for blazing, i.e.
