Pulsars and X-Ray Sources [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1973
We summarize some theoretical aspects of the X-ray emission from genuine pulsars and their relation to the more general problems of X-ray sources.

Extragalactic X-ray Sources [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1973
A review is given of the physical properties of extragalactic X-ray sources. The generation of X-rays as thermal bremsstrahlung, by the synchrotron mechanism or by Compton Scattering, is discussed. It is shown that each may be important depending on the circumstances.

Diagnosing and mapping pulmonary emphysema on X-ray projection images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
To assess whether grating-based X-ray dark-field imaging can increase the sensitivity of X-ray projection images in the diagnosis of pulmonary emphysema and allow for a more accurate assessment of emphysema distribution.

Periods in X-Ray Sources [PDF]

open access: yesHighlights of Astronomy, 1977
Known periodicities in X-ray sources cover a wide range of values - a factor of 108or 109from the 33 mS of the Crab pulsar up to 35 days for the Her X-1 repeat of its up state, or even years if one believes in the not inconceivable idea that at least one “transient” (perhaps not yet even discovered!) is exhibiting some form of repetitive behaviour ...

Simulations of X-ray bursts and superbursts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Observations of neutron star in binary systems provide powerful constrains on the physics at the surface of neutron stars. During the accretion of matter from the companion star, periodic nuclear explosion are triggered in the outer layers of the neutron

Ultraluminous X-ray Sources [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Accretion Processes in Cosmic Sources – II — PoS(APCS2018), 2019
Ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) represent a class of binary systems that are more luminous than any black hole in our Galaxy. The nature of these objects remained unclear for a long time. The most popular models for the ULXs involve either intermediate mass black holes (IMBHs) or stellar-mass black holes accreting at super-Eddington rates.

X-ray reflection in a sample of X-ray bright ultraluminous X-ray sources [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
We apply a reflection-based model to the best available XMM-Newton spectra of X-ray bright UltraLuminous X-ray (ULX) sources (NGC 1313 X-1, NGC 1313 X-2, M 81 X-6, Holmberg IX X-1, NGC 5408 X-1 and Holmberg II X-1). A spectral drop is apparent in the data of all the sources at energies 6-7 keV.

Progress on laser-driven X-ray sources at ELI Beamlines

open access: yes, 2019
Three main paths are being developed within the ELI research program for transforming driving laser pulses into bursts of bright short wavelength radiation: high-order harmonic generation in gases, plasma X-ray sources and sources based on relativistic ...

The nature of the X-ray transient MAXI J0556−332 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Phase-resolved spectroscopy of the newly discovered X-ray transient MAXIJ0556-332 has revealed the presence of narrow emission lines in the Bowen region that most likely arise on the surface of the mass donor star in this low-mass X-ray binary.

X-Ray and optical observations of the X-ray source EX0020528+1454.8 [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 1987
AbstractWe present preliminary results of the EXOSAT X-ray observations and quasisimultaneous and simultaneous optical photometry of the X-ray source EX0020528+1454.8 = 1E0205+149 found independently as an serendipitous source both with Einstein and EXOSAT satellites.
