Calcite Nanocrystals Investigated Using X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy
For the present work, calcite nanocrystals were grown by annealing precursors at 500 °C. These precursors were obtained by three different thermal schemes. Among these schemes, two involve heating at 100 °C for 16 h and 16 + 24 h, respectively.

Interpretation of X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy in the Presence of Surface Hybridization [PDF]
X-ray absorption spectroscopy yields direct access to the electronic and geometric structure of hybrid inorganic-organic interfaces formed upon adsorption of complex molecules at metal surfaces.

X-ray echo spectroscopy, a counterpart of neutron spin-echo, is being introduced here to overcome limitations in spectral resolution and weak signals of the traditional inelastic x-ray scattering (IXS) probes. An image of a point-like x-ray source is defocused by a dispersing system comprised of asymmetrically cut specially arranged Bragg diffracting ...

Evidence for suppressed metallicity on the surface of La2-xSrxCuO4 and Nd2-xCexCuO4 [PDF]
Hard X-ray Photoemission spectroscopy (PES) of copper core electronic states, with a probing depth of $\sim$60 \AA, is used to show that the Zhang-Rice singlet feature is present in La$_2$CuO$_4$ but is absent in Nd$_2$CuO$_4$.

Laser plasma x-ray source for ultrafast time-resolved x-ray absorption spectroscopy
We describe a laser-driven x-ray plasma source designed for ultrafast x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The source is comprised of a 1 kHz, 20 W, femtosecond pulsed infrared laser and a water target.

Revealing core-valence interactions in solution with femtosecond X-ray pump X-ray probe spectroscopy
Femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy using ultrafast optical and infrared pulses has become an essential tool to discover and understand complex electronic and structural dynamics in solvated molecular, biological, and material systems. Here we report the

Soft X-Ray Spectroscopy of Low-Valence Nickelates
Low-valence nickelates—including infinite-layer (IL) and trilayer (TL) compounds—are longstanding candidates for mimicking the high-temperature superconductivity of cuprates. A recent breakthrough in the field came with the discovery of superconductivity

X-ray induced electronic structure change in CuIr$_2$S$_4$
The electronic structure of CuIr$_2$S$_4$ has been investigated using various bulk-sensitive x-ray spectroscopic methods near the Ir $L_3$-edge: resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS), x-ray absorption spectroscopy in the partial fluorescence yield ...

X-ray absorption spectroscopy, today widely used as a tool for structural investigations, is described. Theoretically it is shown that above an absorption edge the absorption coefficient is well approximated by a sum of terms, each one describing a particular path followed by the photoelectron outgoing from the atom.

X-ray Spectroscopy of Candidate Ultracompact X-ray Binaries
We present high-resolution spectroscopy of the neutron star/low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) 4U 1850-087 and 4U 0513-40 as part of our continuing study of known and candidate ultracompact binaries.
