Surface Modes on Bursting Neutron Stars and X‐Ray Burst Oscillations
Accreting neutron stars (NSs) often show coherent modulations during type I X-ray bursts, called burst oscillations. We consider whether a nonradial mode can serve as an explanation for burst oscillations from those NSs which are not magnetic. We find that a surface wave in the shallow burning layer transitions into a crustal interface wave as the ...

Identifying the Origin of Fast Radio Burst–Associated X-Ray Bursts with X-Ray Polarization
Abstract The origin of an extraordinary X-ray burst (XRB) associated with a fast radio burst (FRB) such as FRB 20200428 is still unclear, though several models, such as the emission of a trapped fireball modified by resonant cyclotron scattering, the outflow from a polar trapped-expanding fireball, and the synchrotron radiation of a far ...

On the nature of photospheric oscillations in strong X-ray bursts
A possible sound origin for the photospheric oscillations in the X--ray bursting sources 1608-522 and 2127+119 is suggested. It is shown that standing sound waves in an expanding spherical envelope can have periods very close to the observed ones. The quite large ratio, $\sim$ 10, of the periods in the two sources is explained in terms of different ...

X-ray polarization of gamma-ray bursts [PDF]
The degree and the temporal evolution of linear polarization in the prompt and afterglow emission of gamma-ray bursts is a very robust diagnostic of some key features of gamma-ray bursts jets and their micro and macro physics. In this contribution, I review the current status of the theory of polarized emission from GRB jets during the prompt, optical ...
