CTOA Measurements of Welds in X100 Pipeline Steel

2008 7th International Pipeline Conference, Volume 3, 2008
A suite of tests characterizing X100 pipeline steels was initiated at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder. Part of the test matrix included testing the toughness of the base metal, welds, and heat-affected zones (HAZ) by use of modified double cantilever beam specimens for crack tip opening angle (CTOA) testing.

Microstructure and Properties of X100 High Strength Pipeline Steel

Materials Science Forum, 2015
In order to study the effect of welding process on the microstructure and properties of weld joint of X100 pipeline steel, GMAW was used to prepare the weld joint with low-carbon high manganese-molybdenum-nickel flux cored welding wire. SEM and XRD were used to analyze the microstructure and phase morphology of HAZ and weld metal.

Research on Hot Deformation Behavior of the X100 Pipeline Steel

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
The hot deformation of X100 pipeline steel was studied in the temperature range of 800~1200 °C and strain rate of 0.1~40s-1 on Gleeble-1500 thermal mechanical simulating tester. The effect of deformation conditions on the flow stress was analyzed. The constitutive equation of hyperbolic sine including Z parameter was used to describe the relationship ...

The Underoil Droplet Corrosion Behavior of X100 Pipeline Steel

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2018
Canadian natural bitumen production will reach a peak of 112 million barrels per day in 2078 [1]. Pipelines are primarily used to transport this bitumen. Bitumen must be diluted in order to be pumped through a pipeline effectively because it is otherwise too viscous to flow [2].

Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of X100 Pipeline Steel Strip

Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2014
Abstract Dynamic CCT (continuous cooling transformation) curves and effects of microstructures and M/A islands of X100 hot rolled strip on mechanical properties were studied by means of a thermal simulator, a scanning electron microscope (SEM), a transmission electron microscope (TEM), a digital micro-hardness tester and Image-Pro Plus analysis ...

Characterization of fiber laser welds in X100 pipeline steel

Materials & Design, 2009
Recent developments in steel grades for pipeline applications have lead to new high strength grades, such as API5L-X100. Higher strength enables the use of thinner walled pipe, with greater operating pressures and reduced overall costs. The base material presents good toughness values; however there are still limitations regarding the weldability of ...

A nanoindentation study on the micromechanical characteristics of API X100 pipeline steel

Metals and Materials International, 2009
The hardness characteristics of constituent micro-phases (ferrite and bainite) in a dual-phase API X100 pipeline steel were analyzed by nanoindentation experiments. The measured nano-hardness of the bainite phase is from 3.8 GPa to 4.9 GPa, which is much higher than that of the ferrite phase, which ranged from 1.75 GPa to 2.3 GPa. With the hardness and

Hybrid intelligent method for fuzzy reliability analysis of corroded X100 steel pipelines

Engineering with Computers, 2020
Epistemic uncertainties are critical for reliable design of corroded pipes made of high-strength grade steel. In this work, corrosion defects geometries and operating pressure are provided as the epistemic uncertainties in reliability analysis. A framework of an iterative approach-based bi-loop is presented for fuzzy reliability analysis (FRA) of ...
