Decoding MAPK cascades in plant immunity: Activation, regulation, integration, and pathogen manipulation

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review focuses on mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation and summarizes how plants regulate and integrate MAPK signaling in modulating plant immune responses. It also examines the effectors pathogens have evolved to manipulate MAPK activation and thereby inhibit plant immunity.

Isolation of atypical wheat-associated xanthomonads in Algeria

open access: yesPhytopathologia Mediterranea, 2020
Bacterial leaf streak and black chaff are important bacterial diseases of wheat, which have been reported to be caused by Xanthomonas translucens. In 2016, symptoms of bacterial leaf streak and black chaff were observed in Algeria, at experimental wheat ...

The Xanthomonas type IV pilus

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Microbiology, 2016
Type IV pili, a special class of bacterial surface filaments, are key behavioral mediators for many important human pathogens. However, we know very little about the role of these structures in the lifestyles of plant-associated bacteria. Over the past few years, several groups studying the extensive genus of Xanthomonas spp.

Natural variation in the promoter of OsPDX1.2 enhances vitamin B6 accumulation and cold tolerance in rice

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Allelic variation in the promoter of the pyridoxal phosphate synthase OsPDX1.2 caused variation in the ACE‐box cis‐elements, resulting in differing OsPDX1.2 expression due to differences in binding affinity between the OsbZIP18 transcriptipn factor and the ACE‐box, contributing to variation in vitamin B6 levels and cold tolerance among rice varieties ...

To Move or Not to Move: When and How Bacteria Suppress Flagellar Motility

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Motility cessation in bacteria is a key regulatory strategy that provides multiple survival advantages including enhanced community cooperation, niche adaptation and evasion of host immune responses. This process is controlled by associated mechanisms such as post‐translational modifications and second messenger signalling that stabilise non‐motile ...

Razrada metoda za dokazivanje Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli na semenu pasulja [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli detection on artificially inoculated bean seeds was investigated. The method of the International Seed Federation – ISF (2006) was used. It included bacteria extraction from seeds and isolation on semiselective media

A Conserved Basal Transcription Factor Is Required for the Function of Diverse TAL Effectors in Multiple Plant Hosts

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Many Xanthomonas bacteria use transcription activator-like effector (TALE) proteins to activate plant disease susceptibility (S) genes, and this activation contributes to disease.

Dodder seedlings benefit from apoplastic nutrition by inducing SWEET15‐mediated unloading of sucrose from the host's phloem

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Cuscuta reflexa infection sites. Summary Cuscuta species are holoparasitic plants that penetrate host stems with haustoria, connect to the vasculature and exhaust water, nutrients and carbohydrates. Parasite seedlings possess only limited maternal reserves and the development of a vascular connection takes several days.

Comparative genomics of a cannabis pathogen reveals insight into the evolution of pathogenicity in Xanthomonas

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Pathogenic bacteria in the genus Xanthomonas cause diseases on over 350 plant species, including cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.). Because of regulatory limitations, the biology of the Xanthomonas-cannabis pathosystem remains largely unexplored.
