Heterokonts (Xanthophyceae and Chrysophyceae) in Rivers
The heterokont classes Xanthophyceae and Chrysophyceae are introduced with its key characteristics and typical benthic river genera. Two relatively widespread genera are the xanthophyte siphonous Vaucheria and the filamentous Tribonema. The heterokont classs (Chrysophyceae) genus Hydrurus is also listed, which consists of a branched colony and can be ...

MOLECULAR SYSTEMATICS OF THE XANTHOPHYCEAE
Journal of Phycology, 2000Species belonging to the Xanthophyceae have traditionally been classified in six (or seven) orders corresponding to amoeboid, coccoid, filamentous, monadoid, palmelloid and siphonous lines of descent. We have determined plastid rbcL and nuclear 18S rRNA gene sequences for selected coccoid, filamentous and siphonous species.

The Xanthophyceae is a clade of stramenopilan photoautotrophs containing about 118 genera and 600 species. Morphology ranges from free-living or attached unicells to colonies and unbranched or branched filaments and siphons. A large majority are found in freshwater and soil, while some occur in brackish and marine habitats.

Xanthophyceae, Euglenophyceae and Dinophyceae
2015Xanthophyceae, Euglenophyceae and Dinophyceae are among those important algal groups which are less diverse than other major groups of algae. Members of Xanthophyceae and Euglenophyceae do not contaminate water, whereas Dinoflagellates causes various types of poisoning. Many important algal members have been included and excluded in these groups due to

The flagellar apparatus in Tribonema (Xanthophyceae) reinvestigated
Phycologia, 2003Abstract In order to fill gaps in the knowledge of the zoospore ultrastructure of the genus Tribonema (Xanthophyceae, Heterokontophyta), the absolute three-dimensional structure of its flagellar apparatus has been reconstructed using transmission and scanning electron microscopy.

Phytochelatin synthesis in response to cadmium uptake inVaucheria(Xanthophyceae) [PDF]
Production of phytochelatins (PCs) in response to cadmium uptake in the benthic macroalgae Vaucheria compacta and V. debaryana (Xanthophyceae) was investigated. The algae synthesized thiol-containing peptides, identified by means of high-performance liquid chromatography as ...

Chlorophyta, Xanthophyceae and Cyanobacteria in Wright Valley, Antarctica
Antarctic Science, 2015AbstractWright Valley, Victoria Land contains numerous aquatic habitats suitable for the growth of algae in summer. Excepting diatoms and lichen phycobionts, algal diversity and distribution in the valley was documented. Using cultures and environmental cloning eight cyanobacterial and 14 eukaryotic species were revealed. The cyanobacterium Microcoleus

Autecology and morphology of selected Vaucheria species (Xanthophyceae)
Aquatic Ecology, 2008In this study, the yellow-green alga Vaucheria was collected from 86 sites with different environmental characteristics. A principal component analysis of the sites revealed a model with four principal components explaining 64.7% of the total variance in the data set.
