Potential roles of selected forage grasses in management of fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) through companion cropping. [PDF]

open access: yesEntomol Exp Appl, 2021
We tested promising forage grasses (Poaceae) to determine their functions as trap crop ‘pull’ components in a ‘push–pull’ strategy. Although there was no strong preference of the grasses to maize, we observed that crop phenology could make a difference.

The role of Desmodium intortum, Brachiaria sp. and Phaseolus vulgaris in the management of fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) in maize cropping systems in Africa. [PDF]

open access: yesPest Manag Sci, 2021
Goal: Demonstrate how push‐pull and maize‐legume intercropping control fall armyworm. Major findings: FAW neonates prefer maize followed by beans. Desmodium is deterrent to FAW neonates. FAW neonate do not feed on brachiaria. No significant difference in egg laid on maize and various brachiaria.

Silicon Application Induced Alleviation of Aluminum Toxicity in Xaraés Palisadegrass

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a major abiotic constraint for agricultural production in acidic soils that needs a sustainable solution to deal with plant tolerance. Silicon (Si) plays important roles in alleviating the harmful effects of Al in plants.

Bromatological and morphological characteristic of forage plants

open access: yesInvestigación Agraria, 2021
To a better decision in relation to the choice of forages, it is important to know its bromatological and morphological characteristics, since this knowledge can lead to greater productivity and quality of dry mass forage. This work aimed to evaluate the
