Typhoons play an important role in beach evolution. The storm surge and large waves caused by typhoons can cause significant changes in beach morphology in a short period of time.

Hydrodynamic analysis of the Sardinero and Puntal-Somo-Loredo beaches with XBeach

Coupling nearshore and aeolian processes: XBeach and duna process-based models [PDF]
Abstract A new dune profile model, Duna, is developed and coupled with the existing XBeach model, in which some key improvements allow a much better behaviour of the intertidal beach and the inclusion of structural erosion or accretion through a longshore transport gradient.

Modelling storm response on gravel beaches using XBeach-G [PDF]
Despite the clear societal importance of gravel beaches and barriers in protecting coastal areas from flooding, there are currently no reliable numerical models for predicting the morphological response of gravel beaches to storm events. This paper synthesises the results of a research project (NUPSIG) aimed at reducing this shortfall through an ...

APPLICATION OF XBEACH TO MODEL STORM RESPONSE ON A MACROTIDAL GRAVEL BARRIER [PDF]
The process-based XBeach numerical model has been used to simulate storm-induced morphological response on a macrotidal gravel barrier located in southwest UK. Using well-established parameterisation to define all relevant hydrodynamic, groundwater and sediment processes, the model was applied in 1D mode to simulate observed storm-induced beach profile

Distant-Source Swells Cause Coastal Inundation on Fiji’s Coral Coast
Distant-source swells are known to regularly inundate low-lying Pacific Island communities. Here we examine extreme total water level (TWL) and inundation driven by a distant-source swell on Fiji’s Coral Coast using observations and a phase-resolving ...

Hydrodynamics and Morphodynamics Performance Assessment of Three Coastal Protection Structures
Coastal areas accommodate a great part of large metropolises as they support a great amount of economic and leisure activities. The attraction of people to coastal zones is contributing to an intense and continuous urbanization of these areas, while the ...

ANALYSIS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF DIFFERENT SEDIMENT TRANSPORT FORMULATIONS IN NON-HYDROSTATIC XBEACH
Process-based, wave-resolving models are essential tools to resolve the complex hydro-morphodynamics in the swash zone. The open-source Non-Hydrostatic XBeach model can solve the depth-averaged wave-by-wave flow in the nearshore region up to the shoreline and the intra-wave bed changes during time-varying storms.
