Comparative analysis of P2-type remnant prophage loci in Xenorhabdus bovienii and Xenorhabdus nematophila required for xenorhabdicin production [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2012
The xnp1 remnant P2-type prophage of Xenorhabdus nematophila produces xenorhabdicin that is active against closely related species. Xenorhabdicin had not been characterized previously in other Xenorhabdus species. Here, we show xenorhabdicin production in six different strains of Xenorhabdus bovienii. The sequenced genome of X.

Genome sequences of key bacterial symbionts of entomopathogenic nematodes: Xenorhabdus cabanillasii DSM17905, Xenorhabdus ehlersii DSM16337, Xenorhabdus japonica DSM16522, Xenorhabdus koppenhoeferii DSM18168, and Xenorhabdus mauleonii DSM17908 [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology Resource Announcements, 2023
Xenorhabdus species are bacterial symbionts of entomopathogenic Steinernema nematodes, in which they produce diverse secondary metabolites implicated in pathogenesis. To expand resources for natural product prospecting and exploration of host-symbiont-pathogen relationships, the genomes of Xenorhabdus cabanillasi, Xenorhabdus ehlersii, Xenorhabdus ...

Description of four novel species of Xenorhabdus, family Enterobacteriaceae: Xenorhabdus budapestensis sp. nov., Xenorhabdus ehlersii sp. nov., Xenorhabdus innexi sp. nov., and Xenorhabdus szentirmaii sp. nov.

Systematic and Applied Microbiology, 2005
The taxonomic affiliation was determined for four Xenorhabdus strains isolated from four Steinernema hosts from different countries. As compared to the five validly described Xenorhabdus species, i.e., X. nematophila, X. japonica, X. beddingii, X. bovienii and X. poinarii, these isolates represented novel species on the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequences

Evolution and taxonomy of nematode-associated entomopathogenic bacteria of the genera Xenorhabdus and Photorhabdus: an overview

open access: yesSymbiosis, 2020
Entomopathogenic bacteria from the genera Photorhabdus and Xenorhabdus are closely related Gram-negative bacilli from the family Enterobacteriaceae (γ-Proteobacteria).

Virulence of Xenorhabdus bovienii and Xenorhabdus japonica against Cnaphalocrocis medinalis Guenee

MADRAS AGRICULTURAL JOURNAL, 2017
The symbiotic bacteria associated with entomopathogenic nematodes can be exploited as potential bio control agents against insect pests. X. bovienii, the symbiotic bacterium of S. feltiae in combination with Bt in the inoculation method, resulted in cent per cent larval mortality of C. medinalis on 2.5 days after treatment.

R-type bacteriocins of Xenorhabdus bovienii determine the outcome of interspecies competition in a natural host environment

open access: yesMicrobiology (United Kingdom), 2020
Xenorhabdus species are bacterial symbionts of Steinernema nematodes and pathogens of susceptible insects. Different species of Steinernema nematodes carrying specific species of Xenorhabdus can invade the same insect, thereby setting up competition for ...

Biosynthesis of the Insecticidal Xenocyloins in Xenorhabdus bovienii

ChemBioChem, 2014
AbstractThe biosynthesis gene cluster for the production of xenocyloins was identified in the entomopathogenic bacterium Xenorhabdus bovienii SS‐2004, and their biosynthesis was elucidated by heterologous expression and in vitro characterization of the enzymes.
