Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 2004
MgF2 protective and antireflective coatings have been conventionally produced by sputtering or chemical vapour deposition CVD [1, 2], but here sol-gel routes to MgF2 are explored. MgF2(M) and MgF2(E) were prepared using an alkoxide:HF:ROH mole ratio of 1:2:200 with methanol and ethanol respectively. All sols were stable for over a year.

Crystallization of TiO2 xerogel
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2020For utilization of TiO2 in advanced applications, TiO2 after thermal treatment has to be in crystalline phase of anatase, because it gives the desired (photocatalytic) properties to material. The work deals with the study of anatase crystallization in TiO2 xerogel (dried at 80 °C) which was prepared from sol in “titanium isopropoxide–isopropyl alcohol ...

Abstract The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of Mn 2+ have been used to investigate the structure of silica xerogels prepared from tetraethylorthosilicate. The measurements were made at ∼ 9.8 GHz. The probe was introduced during preparation of a sol and the EPR spectra of subsequent xerogels were measured following calcination at ...

ABSTRACTThe aqueous polycondensation of resorcinol with formaldehyde proceeds through a sol-gel transition and results in the formation of highly crosslinked, transparent gels. If the solvent is simply evaporated from the pores of these gels, large capillary forces are exerted and a collapsed structure known as a xerogel is formed. In order to preserve

Preparation of Aerogel and Xerogel Nanocomposite Materials
MRS Proceedings, 1999ABSTRACTSol-gel method was used to prepare nickel oxide-silica and iron oxide-silica nanocomposites materials in form of aerogels and xerogels. The samples were characterized by thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, N2 physisorption and transmission electron microscopy techniques.

Superhydrophobic nitric oxide-releasing xerogels
Acta Biomaterialia, 2014Superhydrophobic nitric oxide (NO)-releasing xerogels were prepared by spray-coating a fluorinated silane/silica composite onto N-diazeniumdiolate NO donor-modified xerogels. The thickness of the superhydrophobic layer was used to extend NO release durations from 59 to 105h.

Silica xerogels as pharmaceutical drug carriers
Expert Opinion on Drug Delivery, 2009This review focuses on silica xerogels obtained by the sol-gel method and their application as drug delivery systems. SiO(2) xerogels are potential biomaterials to be used as matrix materials for the extended and controlled release of different kinds of biologically active agents administered by various routes.

Low-frequency dynamics in silica xerogels
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1996Brillouin and Raman experiments have been performed in hydrogenated silica sol - gel and vitreous silica samples made by sol - gel processes (xerogels) and by the melting powder method. The aim of this work has been the study of the low-frequency dynamics of sol - gel systems in comparison with that of amorphous silica.
