Comprehensive Italian Annotated Bibliography on Swordfish (Xiphias gladius, Linnaeus, 1758)
2022The Italian scientists have a long tradition of studies and research on swordfish (Xiphias gladius). This species is certainly one of the most important for the Italian fishery since old historical times, mentioned in many ancient books. This paper lists together the many papers published so far by Italian scientists, concerning the biology of this ...

Organochlorine compounds in swordfish (Xiphias gladius) from the Mediterranean Sea
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2010The Mediterranean swordfish (Xiphias gladius) is an intensively fished species of high commercial value. Due to the great use forhuman consumption, it is important to evaluate the presence of toxic contaminants in their fillets. Mono and non-ortho polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCHs), p,p′ and o,p ...

Otolith elemental fingerprints of juvenile Pacific swordfish Xiphias gladius
Journal of Fish Biology, 2005The trace element composition of young‐of‐the‐year (YOY) juvenile swordfish Xiphias gladius sagittal otoliths were analysed as a preliminary test of the value of otolith elemental fingerprints for determining swordfish nursery ground origins in the central Pacific Ocean. A suite of five elements (Mg, Zn, Sr, Ba and Pb) was assayed with isotope dilution

Contaminanti in Xiphias gladius e Thunnus thynnus del Mar Mediterraneo
2008The DDTs, PCBs and some heavy metals contamination was evaluated in samples of swordfish and tuna caught in the Mediterranean sea from 1999 to present. These two large pelagic fish species have a long biological cycle and being at the top of the food chain, can be regarded as biomarkers.

Pituitary MSH cels were immunohistochemically localized in the teleost fish Xiphias gladius L. using anti a-MSH polydonal serum. MSH cells were found mainly in the pars intermedia (PI) and scarsety in the PD. The density of MSH cells showed difference related to sex and size ofspecimens.
