Exploring chitin morphologies in cuticle fragments of Xiphopenaeus kroyeri by atomic force microscopy

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2002
Abstract Shells of Xiphopenaeus kroyerishrimp were submitted to mild acid and alkaline treatments to produce α chitin films, which were characterised by infrared spectroscopy. Dynamic AC operational mode atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to image the external surface and regions of an inner surface of the cuticle. All samples were scanned in air.

Oxygen Consumption and Ammonia Excretion During the Moulting Cycle in the Shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 1998
Abstract Xiphopenaeus kroyeri (Heller, 1862) is one of the main contributors to the benthic megafauna biomass in Sao Paulo State littoral coast (Brazil). Routine respiration ( R ) and ammonia–N excretion ( U ) rates, defined as those measured during minimum but uncontrolled activity, were quantified in different-sized shrimps at stages C/D 0 , A/B,

EROD activity and genotoxicity in the seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri exposed to benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) concentrations

Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2012
Seabob shrimp Xiphopenaeus kroyeri is a marine species that lives in shallow waters of coastal environments, often impacted by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) pollution. In the present study, seabob shrimp were exposed for 96 h to benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) at the nominal concentrations of 100, 200, 400 and 800 microg-L(-1).
