Selective Identification and Encapsulation of Biohazardous m-Xylene among a Pool of Its Other Constitutional C8 Alkyl Isomers by Luminescent d10 MOFs: A Combined Theoretical and Experimental Study.

Inorganic Chemistry, 2020
Separation of C8 alkyl-aromatics (o-xylene, m-xylene, and p-xylene) remains one of the most challenging tasks to date due to their similar physical and chemical properties.

Intravenous xylene poisoning

Intensive Care Medicine, 1992
A 30-year-old man injected intravenously 8 ml of xylene in a suicidal attempt. After 10 min he developed acute pulmonary failure requiring intubation, controlled ventilation with PEEP and high FiO2. Combined hemoperfusion and hemodialysis were carried out for 4 h.

Estimation of xylenes with chloramine-T

Talanta, 1981
The reaction between xylenes and chloramine-T has been found to proceed quantitatively over a wide range of experimental conditions. A back-titration procedure in which xylenes are reacted with excess of chloramine-T in 1M perchloric acid-0.03M sodium chloride medium has been developed. Inorganic ions other than chloride do not interfere.

Bubble temperature measurements on methanol with o-xylene and ethanol with m-xylene and p-xylene

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 1998
Bubble temperatures at 95 kPa at seven liquid compositions, spaced evenly over the entire composition range, are measured for the three binary systems noted in the title, using a Swietoslawski-type ebulliometer. The temperature (T) vs. composition (x) measurements are found to be well-represented by the Wilson model.

Histology without xylene

Annals of Diagnostic Pathology, 2009
After the hazardous effects of xylene became indisputable in the 1970s, many potential substitutes became available, some with as many if not more hazards. This article discusses the inadequacy of 5 vegetable oils as substitutes, as well as the characteristics of 22 D-limonene-based substitutes, all less effective in their chemical role, some capable ...

Purification of m-xylene from the mixed xylenes by stripping crystallization

Separation and Purification Technology, 2021
Abstract Stripping crystallization (SC) was applied in this work for purification of m-xylene (MX) from the mixed xylenes consisting of MX, p-xylene (PX), o-xylene (OX) and ethylbenzene (EB). As SC is operated in a series of three-phase transformations by decreasing temperature and reducing pressure, SC combines melt crystallization and vaporization ...

Vapour pressures and excess Gibbs energies of cyclohexane + o-xylene, + m-xylene, and + p-xylene

The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1973
Total vapour pressures have been measured for cyclohexane+o-xylene, + m-xylene, and + p-xylene over the whole composition range at 303.15 to 323.15 K. Barker's method has been used to calculate the excess Gibbs energies.

High-Flux High-Selectivity Metal-Organic Framework MIL-160 Membrane for Xylene Isomer Separation by Pervaporation.

Angewandte Chemie, 2018
Separation of p-xylene (kinetic diameter ca. 0.58 nm) from its bulkier isomers (o-xylene and m-xylene, ca. 0.68 nm) is challenging, but important in the petrochemical industry.

Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria of p-xylene + o-xylene and m-xylene + o-xylene systems at 6.66 and 26.66 kPa

Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 1994
Vapor-liquid equilibrium data were obtained for systems of o-xylene with p- and m-xylenes at 6.66 and 26.66 kPa. The activity coefficients were found to be thermodynamically consistent. They were equally well correlated with the Margules, Van Laar, Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC equations. The parameters of these equations are given.

Separation of m-Xylene and p-Xylene by Gas Chromatography

Nature, 1959
CONSIDERABLE interest has recently been centred on the difficult separation of m-xylene and p-xylene by gas chromatography both from the point of view of the analysis of mixtures containing these isomers and the assessment of the performance of high efficiency columns.
