Y-TZP Ceramics: Key Concepts for Clinical Application
Operative Dentistry, 2009SUMMARY Compared to conventional ceramic systems, Yttrium-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) ceramics have some superior mechanical properties, ensuring a broad application in dentistry. The current study aimed to present relevant information about Y-TZP ceramics gathered from peer-reviewed papers.

Low temperature degradation of a Y-TZP dental ceramic
Acta Biomaterialia, 2011Bars of Y-TZP ceramic for dental restorations were subjected to hydrothermal degradation via in vitro exposure to water steam at 140°C for 7 days. X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques were applied to observe and quantify the tetragonal-monoclinic (t-m) phase transformation associated with the process ...

Effect of sandblasting on the mechanical properties of Y-TZP zirconia
Bio-Medical Materials and Engineering, 2012Surface modification techniques affect phase transformation which in turn influences strength of zirconia biomaterial. The study aimed at evaluating the tetragonal to monoclinic (t–m) phase transition of zirconia occurring after sandblasting three different ceramic abrasive materials and its subsequent effect on the strength.
