Mouse Y Chromosome

Mammalian Genome, 1997
The mouse Y Chromosome (Y Chr) map has developed considerably since the last report. The generally accepted size of 60 Mb for the Y Chr has been called into question, as the C57BL/6J Y Chr has been measured to contain 94.7 Mb of DNA (46799). Fifteen new anonymous Y-specific markers have been derived but have not been sublocalised on the chromosome ...

Chromosome Y

2023
Sex chromosome constitution vary genetically in both genders, such as XY in male and XX in female. Even though the chromosomes X and Y advanced from the autosomal pair of the same ancestor, male-specific genes were harbored by the Y chromosome. This Y chromosome plays a crucial role in germ cell differentiation, sex determination in males, and numerous

Three dicentric Y chromosomes*

Annals of Human Genetics, 1970
SUMMARYThree females, two with gonadal dysgenesis, are discussed who were chromatin negative and chromosomally showed mosaicism with two cell lines. One line was 45, X and the other had 46 chromosomes one of which was clearly dicentric in most cells and interpreted as a relatively stable dicentric Y isochromosome.

The human Y chromosome: a masculine chromosome

Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 2006
Once considered to be a genetic wasteland of no scientific interest beyond sex determination, the human Y chromosome has made a significant comeback in the past few decades and is currently implicated in multiple diseases, including spermatogenic failure - absent or very low levels of sperm production.

Gonadoblastoma and Y-Chromosome Fluorescence

Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, 1986
In this report we summarize our experience in 4 patients with 45, X/46, XY, one patient with 45, X/47, XYY mosaicism, and one patient with 46, XY karyotype and ambiguous external genitalia. In the 3 patients with a fluorescent Y‐chromosome, the development of one or two gonadoblastomas was found, independent of the age of the patients at the time of ...

Y Chromosome STR Typing

2004
Because of their unique transmission properties and male specificity, markers located on the nonrecombining region of the Y chromosome (NRY) have become an important tool in forensic investigation. In the past few years, more than 50 polymorphic Y chromosome-specific short tandem repeats (STRs) have been described and a set of 9 loci were selected ...

The Y Chromosome

2021
Most of the length of the Y chromosome escapes recombination with the X chromosome and is strictly paternally inherited. This has profound evolutionary implications and provides (together with the matrilineal mitochondrial DNA) unique tools in human population genetics.

X Chromosome Aberrations

1999
Abstract In this chapter we consider gonadal maldevelopment caused by X-chromosome aberrations. As in Chapter 5, “gonadal maldevelopment” is defined broadly so that it includes defective spermatogenesis due to an extra X chromosome in XXY males and gonadal dysgenesis due to accelerated oocyte attrition in XO females. These two conditions,
