Y-linked Mendelian inheritance of giant and dwarf male morphs in shell-brooding cichlids [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2014
Behavioural variation among conspecifics is typically contingent on individual state or environmental conditions. Sex-specific genetic polymorphisms are enigmatic because they lack conditionality, and genes causing adaptive trait variation in one sex may reduce Darwinian fitness in the other.

NLSS3 Impairs SHM1 Autophagic Degradation to Regulate Leaf Morphology and Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In rice, NLSS3 binds and shields SHM1 from autophagic degradation to maintain serine homeostasis. The A132P mutation in nlss3 disrupts this, triggering SHM1 loss, metabolic dysfunction, K+ imbalance, and impaired ROS scavenging, which collectively drive narrow leaves and salt sensitivity.

Chandrasekhar Mass Limit of White Dwarfs in Modified Gravity

open access: yes, 2022
We investigate the Chandrasekhar mass limit for white dwarfs in various models of $f(R)$ gravity. Two equations of state for stellar matter are used: simple relativistic polytropic equation with polytropic index $n=3$ and the realistic Chandrasekhar ...

High-precision Atmospheric Characterization of a Y Dwarf with JWST NIRSpec G395H Spectroscopy: Isotopologue, C/O Ratio, Metallicity, and the Abundances of Six Molecular Species

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The launch of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) marks a pivotal moment for precise atmospheric characterization of Y dwarfs, the coldest brown dwarf spectral type.

NEAR-INFRARED PHOTOMETRY OF Y DWARFS: LOW AMMONIA ABUNDANCE AND THE ONSET OF WATER CLOUDS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2015
We present new near-infrared photometry for seven late-type T dwarfs and nine Y-type dwarfs, and lower limit magnitudes for a tenth Y dwarf, obtained at Gemini Observatory. We also present a reanalysis of H-band imaging data from the Keck Observatory Archive, for an eleventh Y dwarf.

Flexoelectricity in Photoconversion: Fundamentals, Materials, and Outlooks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical bending of a flexible cantilever induces a strain gradient in the photoactive material. The resulting flexoelectric field couples with photovoltaic and photoconductive effects, modulating charge generation, separation, and collection. A comparative analysis of oxide perovskites, halide perovskites, and two‐dimensional materials is presented,

Clouds and chemistry across the brown dwarf T-Y sequence: Insights from JWST atmospheric retrievals

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
The James Webb Space Telescope offers exceptional spectral resolution and wavelength coverage, which are essential for studying the coldest brown dwarfs, particularly Y dwarfs.

TWO EXTRAORDINARY SUBSTELLAR BINARIES AT THE T/Y TRANSITION AND THEY-BAND FLUXES OF THE COOLEST BROWN DWARFS, [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2012
Using Keck laser guide star adaptive optics imaging, we have found that the T9 dwarf WISE J1217+1626 and T8 dwarf WISE J1711+3500 are exceptional binaries, with unusually wide separations (~0.8 arcsec, 8-15 AU), large near-IR flux ratios (~2-3 mags), and small mass ratios (~0.5) compared to previously known field ultracool binaries. Keck/NIRSPEC H-band

NFYB Integrates Hormonal Signals into Tissue Allometry by Promoting Protein Biosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the American cockroach, NFYB acts as a spatiotemporin that translates distinct hormonal cues into tissue‐specific allometry. Juvenile hormone activates NFYB in the early fat body, while 20‐hydroxyecdysone induces it in late wing pads. NFYB then promotes protein biosynthesis via core translational machinery, driving differential growth across the ...

Diversity of Cold Worlds: Predicted Near-to-mid-infrared Spectral Signatures of a Cold Brown Dwarf with Potential Auroral Heating

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Recent James Webb Space Telescope NIRSpec observations have revealed strong methane emission at 3.326 μ m in the ≈482 K brown dwarf CWISEP J193518.59−154620.3 (W1935).
