Neonatal mortality risk of vulnerable newborns: A descriptive analysis of subnational, population‐based birth cohorts for 238 203 live births in low‐ and middle‐income settings from 2000 to 2017

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Objective We aimed to understand the mortality risks of vulnerable newborns (defined as preterm and/or born weighing smaller or larger compared to a standard population), in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Design Descriptive multi‐country, secondary analysis of individual‐level study data of babies born since 2000.

Dual Variational Problems and Action Principles for Chen–Lee and Hopf–Langford Systems

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe the construction of dual variational principles and action functionals for nonlinear dynamical systems using a methodology based on the dual Lagrange multiplier formalism and a convex optimization approach, to derive families of dual actions that correspond to the given nonlinear ordinary differential system.

Ground Vibration Attenuation Induced by Gabion and Concrete Mats

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a numerical investigation of the ground vibration attenuation promoted by gabion and concrete mats. The analyses employ a coupled boundary‐finite element model, in which the mat is modeled as a flexible plate in fully bonded contact with the surface of an unbounded, linear‐elastic half‐space representing the soil.

Semi‐Analytical Guidance for Velocity Maximization of Gliding Vehicles Using Proportional Navigation and Sparse Waypoints

open access: yesOptimal Control Applications and Methods, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study proposes a semi‐analytical guidance strategy for gliding vehicles by integrating proportional navigation (PN) with sparse waypoint optimization to maximize terminal velocity. Utilizing the analytical solution of PN with a navigation constant of three, the original optimal control problem is transformed into a low‐dimensional ...
