Acute toxic leucoencephalopathy following protonitazene ingestion

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background Distribution of illicit counterfeit alprazolam containing the highly potent synthetic opioid‐receptor agonist protonitazene recently resulted in a number of severe overdoses in Ireland. We report three cases that presented to our hospital, within 6 weeks of one another, following ingestion of illicitly‐sourced alprazolam.

Defect‐engineered tungsten oxide nanowires as redox‐metabolic nanozymes for gut inflammation‐infection syndromes

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Defect‐engineered WO3 nanowires serve as a multifunctional nanozyme platform to treat IBD complicated by Salmonella co‐infection. By integrating catalytic ROS/RNS scavenging and targeted metabolic interference of pathogens via molybdenum substitution, these nanowires effectively resolve intestinal oxidative stress, inhibit infection, and restore ...

Land birds on atolls: diversity, origin, and function

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Oceanic islands are global hotspots of avian biodiversity and endemism. Their isolation and distinct environmental conditions have uniquely shaped the evolutionary trajectories of island birds, while, in turn, land bird communities have become critical providers of ecological functions to island ecosystems.

Old data, new tricks: Comprehensive computational analysis of 10 years of multi‐center EuroFlow acute myeloid leukemia diagnostic immunophenotypic data

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is characterized by high genotypic and immunophenotypic heterogeneity. We collected an extensive dataset containing 5366 flow cytometry files from 885 AML patients, stained with the EuroFlow acute leukemia orientation tube (ALOT) and AML/MDS panel, acquired in a standardized way at eight centers over a period of 10

Membrane lipid metabolism as a regulatory frontier in neural crest biology: Roles for sphingolipids, cholesterol, and lipid rafts

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Neural crest cells are multipotent, migratory stem‐like cells essential for vertebrate development that contribute broadly to many tissues including the craniofacial skeleton, peripheral nervous system, and pigment‐producing cells. Their development progresses through phases of induction, specification, delamination, migration, and ...

Astrocyte subtype‐specific alterations in the dentate gyrus of individuals with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Epilepsy affects approximately 50 million people worldwide and, although primarily attributed to neuronal dysfunction, increasing evidence highlights a critical role of glial cells, particularly astrocytes, in the pathophysiological mechanisms.

Impact of vigabatrin on risk of relapse of infantile spasms

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Vigabatrin is an effective treatment for infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS), but relapse remains a clinical challenge. The ideal dose and duration of treatment after response are unknown. We set out to identify treatment‐related predictors of IESS relapse after initial vigabatrin response. Methods We conducted a retrospective
