Understanding the mechanisms controlling community diversity is a central, topic in ecology, particularly in microbial ecology. Although species pools and local assembly processes are believed to play non‐negligible roles in shaping the within‐community (α) and among‐community (β) diversity of microbial communities, their relative importance as ...

Threatened cockatoo adapts foraging strategy to survive habitat loss from fire
Fire regimes are changing across the globe as a result of human‐induced climate change. For granivorous bird species, changes in fire regimes can affect seed availability and the persistence of populations. We investigated the foraging behaviour of Glossy Black Cockatoos Calyptorhynchus lathami halmaturinus, a resource specialist, following large‐scale

Forest type influence on Heliconia‐dipteran interaction networks
Responses to forest type depended on the developmental stage of dipterans. Bract traits and forest type influenced larval abundance, but forest type had no impact on adult alpha and beta diversity. Heliconia‐dipteran interaction networks showed a nested pattern for both forest types.

Burrows of the threatened Gibson's Big Sand Tiger Beetle in riverine dune habitats are susceptible to flooding through managed flows. HEC‐RAS modelling identified the flow thresholds above which flooding would occur for burrows and affect the beetle larvae. These findings provide instream flow guidelines for conserving this threatened species and guide

Abstract Anadromous salmonids migrate seaward to exploit feeding and growth opportunities in marine habitats, yet how smolt biological characteristics influence their marine migratory behavior remains poorly understood. This study used 9 years of trout (Salmo trutta) population monitoring data from 15,595 tagged age‐0+ parr, 1033 smolts detected ...
