Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in seawater and sediments from the Southern Yellow Sea

open access: yes, 2007
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental contaminants formed by either thermal alteration of buried organic matter or incomplete combustion of organic matter. PAHs are detectable almost everywhere in the environment, including

Homology Modeling and Molecular Dynamics Simulation Studies of a Marine Alkaline Protease

open access: yesBioinformatics and Biology Insights, 2012
A cold-adapted marine alkaline protease (MP, accession no. ACY25898) was produced by a marine bacterium strain, which was isolated from Yellow Sea sediment in China.

Regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1 by p53‐ΔNp63 crosstalk modulates the DNA damage response and therapeutic efficacy in HNSCC

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...

Development of the Yellow Sea Operational Oceanographic System through China-Korea Bileteral Cooperation

open access: yes, 2003
The Yellow Sea is a semi-enclosed, helf-type shallow water sea shared by China, North Korea and South Korea. The establishment of an operational oceanographic system for the Yellow Sea is of common interest to the two countries. It is certain that it is

Effects and the Underlying Mechanisms of CO2-Driven Ocean Acidification on the Behavior of Marine Mollusks: A Summary [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Fishery Sciences
Ocean acidification (OA) refers to the ongoing decrease in the pH of the global ocean caused primarily by the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere, which is emitted during anthropogenic activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels ...

Paclitaxel induces NM2‐dependent cellular contraction through GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and RhoA/ROCK activation in cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Taxanes are widely used chemotherapeutics whose effects on cellular mechanics remain poorly understood. We show that paclitaxel induces rapid cellular contraction by promoting GEF‐H1 dissociation from microtubules and non‐muscle myosin II activation through RhoA/ROCK.
