TOXICITY OF YESSOTOXIN IN EXPERIMENT IN VIVO [PDF]

open access: yesHealth Risk Analysis, 2018
Yessotoxin (YTX) is a polyether. There are more than 90 known derivatives of yessotoxin. YTX was excluded from diarrhea toxins group as it, unlike okadaic acid, doesn't cause diarrhea. YTX chemical structure is similar to that of brevetoxins and ciguatoxins that influence functioning of calcium-sodium pump and trans-membrane ion channels.

Shellfish contamination with lipophilic toxins and dietary exposure assessments from consumption of shellfish products in Shenzhen, China

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2021
Lipophilic shellfish toxins (LSTs) can cause human illness and therefore represent a serious threat to public health. Shellfish are the main dietary source of LSTs, but very few studies have appraised dietary exposure to LSTs through shellfish ...

Safety of oil from Schizochytrium limacinum (strain TKD‐1) for use in infant and follow‐on formula as a novel food pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 21, Issue 12, December 2023., 2023
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) was asked to deliver an opinion on the safety of Schizochytrium sp. (TKD‐1) oil as a novel food (NF) pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. Schizochytrium sp. is a single‐cell microalga.

Determination of Lipophilic Marine Biotoxins in Mussels Harvested from the Adriatic Sea by LC-MS/MS

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Lipophilic marine biotoxins include okadaic acid, pectenotoxin, yessotoxin and azaspiracid groups. The consumption of contaminated molluscs can lead to acute food poisoning syndromes depending on the exposure level.

Integrative monitoring strategy for marine and freshwater harmful algal blooms and toxins across the freshwater‐to‐marine continuum

open access: yesIntegrated Environmental Assessment and Management, Volume 19, Issue 3, Page 586-604, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Many coastal states throughout the USA have observed negative effects in marine and estuarine environments caused by cyanotoxins produced in inland waterbodies that were transported downstream or produced in the estuaries. Estuaries and other downstream receiving waters now face the dual risk of impacts from harmful algal blooms (HABs) that ...

Solid phase extraction for removal of matrix effects in lipophilic marine toxin analysis by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The potential of solid phase extraction (SPE) clean-up has been assessed to reduce matrix effects (signal suppression or enhancement) in the liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC¿MS/MS) analysis of lipophilic marine toxins.

The efficacy and safety of high‐pressure processing of food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 20, Issue 3, March 2022., 2022
Abstract High‐pressure processing (HPP) is a non‐thermal treatment in which, for microbial inactivation, foods are subjected to isostatic pressures (P) of 400–600 MPa with common holding times (t) from 1.5 to 6 min. The main factors that influence the efficacy (log10 reduction of vegetative microorganisms) of HPP when applied to foodstuffs are ...
