Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Cartesian Abstraction Can Yield ‘Cognitive Maps’
AbstractIt has been long debated how the so called cognitive map, the set of place cells, develops in rat hippocampus. The function of this organ is of high relevance, since the hippocampus is the key component of the medial temporal lobe memory system, responsible for forming episodic memory, declarative memory, the memory for facts and rules that ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Annual winter crop distribution from MODIS NDVI timeseries to improve yield forecasts for Europe
Crop yield forecasts allow policy makers to anticipate market behaviour and regulate prices. Annual updates on which crops are grown where can improve crop yield forecast accuracy.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Large-Scale Maize Condition Mapping to Support Agricultural Risk Management
Crop condition mapping and yield loss detection are highly relevant scientific fields due to their economic importance. Here, we report a new, robust six-category crop condition mapping methodology based on five vegetation indices (VIs) using Sentinel-2 ...

Developing strategies for spatially variable nitrogen application in cereals II: wheat [PDF]
For precision agriculture to provide both economic and environmental benefits over conventional farm practice, management strategies must be developed to accommodate the spatial variability in crop performance that occurs within fields.
