Estimating glacier ice thickness and yield strength using surface elevation and the perfect-plastic approximation

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Our ability to accurately quantify the total ice volume in glaciers and the loss of glacier volume, discharge and freshwater in response to climate change is limited by a paucity of ice thickness and bed topography observations. Consequently, glacial ice

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

A transforming interpenetrating-phase cermet with high strength and energy dissipation capacity

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
Cermets generally exhibit a trade-off between strength and energy dissipation capacity. By applying a dual design strategy combining bioinspired architecting and metastability engineering, we developed a transforming interpenetrating-phase cermet made ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Machine Learning-Enabled Prediction and Mechanistic Analysis of Compressive Yield Strength–Hardness Correlation in High-Entropy Alloys

open access: yesMetals
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) represent a paradigm-shifting material system offering vast compositional space for tailoring mechanical properties. The yield strength and hardness are critical performance metrics, yet their interrelationships in diverse HEAs
