Features of Solid-Solution Hardening and Temperature Dependence of the Critical Shear Stress in Binary and Multicomponent Alloys

open access: yesУспехи физики металлов
The paper analyses the hardening of binary and multicomponent solid solutions (including high-entropy alloys (HEAs)); addresses the notion of a compositional–cluster structure of binary solid solutions with unlimited solubility to propose an equation ...

Viscoelastic capillary flow: the case of whole blood

open access: yesAIMS Biophysics, 2016
The dynamics of spontaneous capillary flow of Newtonian fluids is well-known and can be predicted by the Lucas-Washburn-Rideal (LWR) law. However a wide variety of viscoelastic fluids such as alginate, xanthan and blood, does not exhibit the same ...

Bubble clouds in viscoplastic fluids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Viscoplastic fluids can hold bubbles/particles stationary by balancing the buoyancy stress with the yield stress. In the present study, we investigate a suspension of bubbles in a yield-stress fluid. More precisely, we compute how much the gas fraction $\phi$ that could be held trapped in a yield-stress fluid without motion.

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Plastic o pseudoplastic?. Methods for determining and analising the yield stress of ceramic slips

open access: yesBoletín de la Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio, 2000
In the last years the use of rheometric techniques like control stress and oscillation measurements has become popular. In this work the basic concepts of suspensions rheology are revised and the recent rheometric techniques for their complete ...

The Effects of Dolomite Powder Content and Type on the Yield Stress Relationship between Self-Compacting Mortar and Paste

open access: yesBuildings
Self-compacting concrete (SCC), known for its excellent fluidity and self-compacting ability, is widely used in civil engineering. To enhance the comprehensive performance of SCC, dolomite powder (DP) is integrated as a substitute for cement.

New Driving Unit for the Direct Measurement of Yield Stress with a Stress Controlled Rheometer

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2008
Investigations of rheological properties of ferrofluids have shown strong changes of the viscosity in magnetic fluids with an applied magnetic field. The change of the viscosity – the magnetoviscous effect – can theoretically be described with chain and ...

Acoustic bubble dynamics in a yield-stress fluid

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2020
Bubbles initially trapped in a yield-stress fluid can be displaced by acoustic forces and exhibit shape oscillations at higher acoustic pressure, but irreversible motion is not observed.

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Gas Hydrate Plugging Mechanisms during Transient Shut–In/Restart Operation in Fully Dispersed Systems

open access: yesFuels
Gas hydrate formation poses a significant challenge in offshore oil and gas production, particularly during cold restarts after extended shut–ins, which can lead to pipeline blockages.
